I just flipped through my copy of "Julie & Julia". I read a paragraph which got me thinking, in the movie it makes it seem that Julie did not put pay pal on her blog, but in the book, she did. I wonder if this is one of the reasons that Julia did not like her blog? I imagine Julia, being an old fashioned lady, viewed it as gauche.

In the book she did it to offset the cost of the $$ ingrediants she needed to complete her mission - lobster, lamb etc. were not cheap.

Poor Uncle Scooterbug - he got a copy of "Bridges of Madison County" from Mama Scooterbug - who thought it was a book about bridges! :rofl:

I can't wait to see the movie because

this book is one of the flat out funniest books I've ever read in my life.
I LITERALLY fell out of my chair laughing (because I was wetting myself and didn't want to have to clean the upholstery!)

I read the book last week in SoWal. Loved it! Like Dune-ahh said, hilarious!! Haven't seen the movie, but will soon.

I read the book yesterday (after seeing the movie Sunday) and HATED it!

Julie Powell is SO annoying and whiny - I have no problems understanding why Julia Childs hated the blog.

Scooterbro started reading the book (he's a chef) and disliked it even more than me - he stopped after the 2nd chapter!

It was bound to happen--first time in almost 3000 posts, and I DISAGREE with Scooty!

I thought the Julie Powell character was perfect as the modern day 30 year old girl who is getting a late start in life and then finding her passion. She contrasted nicely to the real Julia.

Instead of annyoying and whiney, I found her to be, initially, a confused wanderer whose esteem and maturity level slowly percolates throughout the movie!
