Is it flu if you don't have a fever?
I get so confused. We have all been feeling icky this week, headaches, runny nose, sore throat, backaches. No fever. I already got slammed with this a month or so ago and couldn't work for three days (and I work from home so it had to be really bad to keep me out). I didn't have a fever then either though.

I had the flu once - luckily it was when I was home for a visit because I have never been that exhausted or pitiful in my life. If I was home alone I would have probably just slept on the bathroom floor and make myself worse by not eating anything.

One item of note - apparently you are NOT supposed to give kids aspirin because it reacts w/ the swine flu somehow. :dunno:

I'm told that yes it can be flu (or a cold, or whatever other inflammatory/infectious condition) even without spiking a fever. Often as we get older, our immune system responds differently to foreign invaders than when younger. I hardly ever get fevers any more, and what I get instead is severe chills; I've experienced this chill-instead-of-fever thing with colds, flus, even a pretty severe case of mastitis years ago. I don't really care what name they give it, I just want to feel better already!

If you are concerned about getting the flu, or have been in contact with someon that has the flu, call your doctor and ask him/her to call in a prescription for Tammiflu. That is what I did as a precaution. No doctor visit, just call in and there you have it. If you spike a fever, go to the doctor or ER immediately. The sooner a dose of Tammiflu is in you, the better off you will be, and those around you.

One girl at our work tried that already, they told her it was prescription only. I had to go to the emergency room yesterday because of my dad being there and I could not believe the people in the emergency waiting room wearing masks. I hurried through there as you must know. One woman was laying across three chairs in a corner crying.

Even with Tammiflu, I have spiked a fever, so my dose is now doubled. Tammiflu is supposed to make your symptoms less severe and helps the flu to move on more quickly. This crud is nasty! I feel like I have been hit by a tank. I hurt all over, my head hurts, I am sneezing but not congested. Nausea on occassion, but not constant. I started to feel sick yesterday while taking a class in Niceville, all I wanted to do was put my head on the table and go to sleep. I made it til noon then came home. Weird, but my appetite is fine.

I have had a version of this for about 10 days- same with Bdarg. We even will feel better for a few days, then it comes back. Dizziness, head/back/shoulder ache, nausea, feeling completely "out to lunch" totally wiped out even when not dizzy, a little bit of sinus, stuffy ears, but not anything major. No fever. Did have a full day of sneezing. Labor Day we were both in the bed, felt a bit better during the week, and bam! Hit me again this morning- getting ready to go to bed now (8 pm!!!).

I have talked to several people today with the same symptoms- it is weird! Sudafed/Advil and Dramamine for dizziness helps.

In some cultures this is called a 'hangover'.:leaving:
