he was nominated 11 days after taking office, 11! i am not surprised that he won, nor an i about to drag anything about this through the mud, but don't you find it odd that even the most liberal and supportive media thought it was a joke and spam when they first heard the news?

What does his time in office have to do with this? He didn't need to be President in order to win this award.

Well, I'm happy anytime the rest of the world acknowledges American exceptionalism! :clap:President Obama has done a great job of impressing the Nobel judges - kudos!

Can there be any other kind of peace...

thanks GW - you wrote exactly what I was thinking.

My favorite reaction so far:

YO OBAMA, I'M GONNA LET YOU FINISH, BUT I JUST WANNA SAY THAT MARTIN LUTHER KING JR WAS THE BEST NOBEL PRIZE WINNER OF ALL TIME.

I'm sure this was a WTF moment for every single person in the world outside of the committee and perhaps the person who nominated him, which of course lends credence to the question of whether he deserves it.

But the committee's reasons spell it out -- and it is difficult to argue with their logic if that is where they are coming from. I am proud of the humility of Obama's reaction, and astounded at the world reaction to his presidency, which has been reflected in polls, but has been fully brought into focus by today's announcement.

It's heartening. Congratulations President Obama! Now, get back to work.

thank you TFT.

I could not be more proud of our president and country.

My gosh, I call BS on this whole thing! The man had accomplished ZERO when he was nominated except get elected. By this reasoning Ryan Leaf should have been the MVP of the NFL the year he was drafted.

Cult of Personality, nothing more, nothing less. Go back to drinking Kool-Aid

what did he accomplish before becoming president other than minipulating the folks to think he's someone he's not on the campaign trail?

im amazed that if it was a repub in the oval office and got this award, he or she would have had to bring world peace to reality before being recognized.

the hypocrisy is transparent...

The president of our country was just awarded one of the most prestigious awards in the history of the planet. Even if you don't understand why, you should be proud and thankful, and respectful. This is good for America and good for the world.

Peace begins with each one of us. Be a part of it.

If you don't understand Nobel Peace Prize then you are beyond reach. That is OK. Perception is often more important than reality. Your team just won the Super Bowl. Celebrate instead of wondering why the ref threw a flag on your lineman in the 1st quarter.

respectfully, how can you compare the two? nobel peace prize is exactly what it reads and theres no "peace" accomplishments. in fact, he's done the complete opposite by apologizing for america and siding with dictators.

i think he got the award because of exactly this. the world has always been jelous of this nation and they always will. and by having a u.s. prez apologize for our accomplishments is music to their ears thus the reward. what did carter and arafat (wrong spelling i know) do for peace? this org has now shown to be a joke, just like the academy awards.

to me its a smack in the face to those who actually tried and/or succeeded in bringing about peace to the world and/or parts of it.

im just saying....
