and a b!tch.

karma.jpg

I don't think it's productive to wish ill on people who have done wrong (not saying you are in particular). Then it becomes some kind of wishful thinking. I've known people close to me who ruined their lives because they obsessed over past acquaintances who have screwed them over. They fantasized about bad things happening to them instead of just getting on with their own lives. I think everybody could be a little guilty of this, but it's a good habit to break. If you don't, that will surely bite you in the arse. Hoping for karma to settle the score for these people is no different. At the same time when people like Limbaugh or Falwell, who I consider dangerous influences, finally kick the bucket, I feel no heartache.

What are Karma points? For that matter, what is Karma? Some of these new philosophical terms, at least new to me, are lost on this very senior citizen as I did not grow up with them.:D

You might not have called it Karma but I bet you know the Golden Rule.

And Karma is definitely not just myth and superstition.

Bascially it is chemical, every action receives a reaction.

I think it's more like bad people who get away with something tend to be repeat offenders, they don't have trustworthy friends who are supportive, and they believe they are invincible. Look at O.J. Simpson. Is that karma that he's now behind bars? I don't happen to think so.

In some sense yes it probably is. I think we actually agree but the terminolgy is different.

I really don't know if making tasteless jokes about people like Limbaugh or Falwell will come back and bite you. It's always safer to be non-controversial, you'll never lose, but sometimes you gain something by being controversial so it really is a fine line.:dunno: I think of karma points as chips in the casino of life. You have to be willing to gamble them now and then.

I'm not sure if you're asking me or not. I don't happen to believe in karma, so my answer to you is no. I'll say it's impossible not to wish ill on such people and revel in their suffering, but it probably doesn't do any good. I am however convinced that revenge fantasies for lesser offenses can have a destructive effect on one's life. To my mind, that's what karma is all too often, just a revenge fantasy.

Still, it would be nice to know just how many points I'd lose. . . . . .;-)

effing quote of the day.

One of my New Year's Resolutions is to try and remember this quote when reading controversial threads:

"I have never in my life learned anything from any man who agreed with me." ~ Dudley Field Malone

That goes for women too ;-)

Good quote though, and as long as others state their cases w/out insulting my position then I am willing to listen and see if I can learn.

G

I totally agree!
we always learn from others when keeping our mind open and our anger or disrespect for different opinions out. also, we should never forget there is no rule that says you have to participate or add to a thread you feel is not worthy. its not that hard to just ignore and find one that is worthy of your contribution.

I agree Minnie. Everything we do or fail to do causes a reaction that spreads and does return to us in one form or another.

wonder what this means for Rushie baby.

whatever his karma points, I do wish him good health.
