Perhaps we need a growing "Mt. Trashmore" on the horizon to emphasize the importance of recycling too.

There is one in Pt Washington, just ask JDarg to point it out. A beer can Tower of Babel:lol:

By the way, the trailers had as of late been overflowing. I deposited a ton o' cans at the Miramar fire station last night and the there was plenty of room.

Right here!
Don't forget, if you go to the trailer at Publix, you can also take your paper bags, plastic bags, and styrofoam to the green bins out in front at the grocery entrance. Between that and the trailer, there isn't a lot you actually have to discard.

Are those Publix bins? If so Publix generates the revenue from the contents. We should only be putting recyclables in county bins, which generates revenue for us.

RECYCLE AT PUBLIX
Looking for a place for all those plastic grocery bags? You can recycle them at any neighborhood Publix. Just look for a bin at the front of the store.
Publix provides a service to its customers (and our landfills) by providing recycle bins for plastic and paper grocery bags (from any store). its not a matter of revenue. its a service to you and earth.

edit.. talked to publix manager today. the green bins out front are used to recycle plastic and paper bags (from any store), and styrofoam items such as egg containers. these are sent back to a main warehouse, and sold. the $$ goes toward purchase of recycled bags and other containers used for publix products. its a very small part of their huge sustainability effort. definitely worth taking the time to drop off these items - its convenient and won't end up as more garbage in our landfills. these will be recycled. also, these items are not recycled by the County - as far as I know.

Do NOT drop off glass, plastic bottles, etc at Publix bins (the publix folks often find bags of these in front of the store, or in their green bins). they do accept these items from the public (although they do recycle and reuse a ton of their own items). There is a recycle trailer provided by the County located just behind Publix WaterColor - it is not affiliated with Publix.

Those bins at Publix cover things that can't go in the county trailer.

I don't care who gets the revenue from it - I only care that they are making it possible for me to recycle items instead of adding them to a landfill.

On another note, I know this has been discussed as well...but where do I take the full bag of phone books that I have collected over a year and a half?

that's the whole idea. also, Publix uses the revenue to purchase more recycled bags and containers for their products, etc. it is all good.

meanwhile, Publix truly encourages us to utilize the reusable bags that I always leave at home but am going to make a HUGE effort to put them in my car and keep putting them back in my car after use. the problem is that I'm in and out of Publix and usually my bags are left at home. gotta come up with a better routine.
