This should be an incredibly fun mid-term. I've never seen so many critical races with polls neck and neck. The battle for control of the senate looks to be determined by about three races. If Crist is considering caucusing with the democrats, that would make our race one of the critical senate races as well.

I'm not sure who I will vote for yet. I'd like to vote libertarian, if there's a respectible candidate. But if Rubio and Crist are neck and neck, I'll have to go with Rubio. Seeing the dems lose the senate would be priceless. :D

Then thank you for your vote for a guy who might as well vote to flush the Gulf down the toilet. I thought you lived here. On the Panhandle. Maybe I was wrong? You are one of the few conservative posters on this board that I perceive has a brain and some sense, at least in considering the issues that directly affect us as Gulf coast residents. Rubio, really?

I suppose deep water drilling has nothing to do with the fact that the amount of oil reserves there make it quite lucrative? and new technologies have made it more possible? Especially if an oil company is so greedy that it cuts all the corners it can to save money?

They go where the resources are - no?

BP's discovery of a giant oil field in the deep waters of the Gulf made that area "probably the most promising area in United States-controlled territory."

We have needed to focus on clean, alternatives for years and haven?t. WE COULD HAVE. We still can and must.

Again, I ask what sacrifices are you willing to make to support the total ban on domestic drilling, while we wait on these new technologies? And, remember I support alternative energies, I am just a realist.

if you were a realist, you would see the need for all of us to pay more for oil in order to nudge the auto manufacturers in the right direction. what difference in the price of a gallon of gas is made by ruining the most beautiful beaches in this country? perhaps you should have some beach time in galveston bay.

Right here!

Honestly I'm not aware of Rubio's stance on near shore or gulf drilling. It might effect my vote but I tend to not be a single issue voter.

You worry about the gulf and drilling, I do to. I also worry about my healthcare being scuttled, the debt this country is adding up, growth of entitlements, just to name a few things. So far Rubio is the only candidate I've heard mention any of these problems and propose real solutions. I might change my mind down the road (we know so little about these two on national issues) but I feel today Rubio will be the better man for the job. This is based on what I know today about all the candidates. That could always change.

That's pretty funny, Houston native here, grew up going to Galveston and Bolivar and picking tar balls out of my butt. You are under the assumption that I want cheap gas, but you are wrong I want what the market will bear, while we drill domestically offshore and inland. FYI I do not drive a gas guzzling SUV, I drive a midsize vehicle and the spouse drives a 15 year old small truck, and I recycle.
I love the beaches of northwest Florida, that is why we come every year (sometimes twice), and I pray everyday for all involved. The solution is much more complicated than higher gas and smaller vehicles.

I am still waiting for someone to tell me what sacrifices they are willing to make if we stop all drilling!

the sacrifice we will make is that we will pay more for the same commodity, people will choose products based on efficiency. there is no free market concerning oil. our military is the fulcrum, and all the major players are multi-national. the solution is not more oil supply, but less. the endgame draws near if we do nothing.
