He doesn't need or want your respect.

How do you know? Are you a personal friend? Just joking. This is getting ugly and not respectful. I have my opinion and you have yours and we are both entitled to it. I am not going to change your mind and you will not change mine.

take the time to think through your positions. blaming environmentalist for an oil spill cannot be logically argued. challenge yourself to see the issue at hand....an ecological nightmare. changing one's opinion when confronted by logic is a sign of intelligence.

I am really fed up with hearing this!

ALTERNATIVES ARE HERE! The problem is the total misinformation out there and the constant posts being repeated time and again about how maybe one day ......:bang:

Let me ask a question - If I just built a house and said that I put in gold faucets, crown moulding, granite, marble, tiled floors, etc... I'd probably be told that I made a wise investment because that is what people want - most wouldn't think twice at those decisions - right? (anyone can take this and go with it.....)

But everytime I mention that we have a net zero home where we put up SOLAR PANELS that yes, have been invented, I inevitably hear - but how much did you spend?? (like the granite or marble would even begin to pay me back like my solar does)

I just built a house and less than 9% of my total cost of building went into solar - and we are the ONLY new construction on Chelco to go solar. So the question should be WHY are we NOT doing this on a larger scale? Bad info circulating about solar that is often times based on trying to "fix" older buildings with solar. Let's start NOW on all new construction and produce CLEAN ENERGY!

I support politicians who want to put FL on the map as the SOLAR STATE - then maybe we will start to get somewhere. I've even had email correspondence with a few asking them to come see our humble abode and see what can be done without sacrificing one bit! (ok, I didn't get gold faucets or granite )

If we'd stop building houses with 2x4 construction (insane for energy & hurricane country) and start new building plans with conservation in mind that would be a huge first step. Safety and conservation should be the first two considerations always IMO.

We do NOT have to have the oil off our shores. We can make the changes starting tomorrow and they are not sacrifices. Talk about sacrificing - we are sacrificing our Earth and waters and animals and human life is what we are doing.

The better question would be the one asking those who SUPPORT drilling off our precious waters what THEY are doing to conserve!

I've yet to see ONE of the supporters of drilling frequent any of the oil conservation threads Rita just linked us to. You are welcome to COME ON OVER! :welcome:

Thanks! a very passionate and insightful post.

TX somewhat recently introduced a Solar Leasing program which if one gets in on it early is of low cost with rebates and incentives.

Solar lease program a big hit in Texas | McClatchy

Years ago an American, who couldn't get anywhere in the US with his windmill technology, took his idea to Denmark where it has been quite successful. As long as we let innovations go elsewhere or sit back and watch as other countries, like China, proceed with alternative energies we dig our own hole deeper.

I have looked for the name of the person who developed windmill technology used in Denmark but can't find his name - anybody know?

You hit it on the head. I'll say, internal combustion engines are awesome. Nothing sweeter than the growl of a DOHC V8 while you're pinned to your seat. I love driving down the highway with the top down at 65 mph while the engine snarls. But so what?? We need to phase out this stuff because we can! Save petroleum for aircraft, lawnmowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, and plastics. Also lets not forget about military applications (or any emergency applications). They shouldn't have to rely on charging stations when lives are at stake.

Just think if everybody had a hybrid vehicle we could cut our oil consumption in half. Do I own a hybrid? No. Does that make me a hypocrite? Hell no! We are talking about over the next 10-20 years, but you have to start now.

We are not going to give up on oil. I have no problem with plastic, in fact, I like it. Thing is, do we need to create big underwater petroleum volcanoes in our own backyard that destroy lives and ecosystems? I think not. There's a word for that. It's called MURDER!!

Nor I from you, you see this could go on for days and I quite frankly do not have time to argue. I am done, not because I can't argue, cause I can, I just do not like the tone this is taking. If we can't respect each others opinions then we really have nothing. You can respond all you want, just know that I will not be reading here.:D

what's that they used to ask at publix when bagging your groceries.....they don't ask anymore. you get the petroleum bags if you don't carry in your own. last i checked, an entry level ford mustang has over 300 horsepower, and the government gives little to no incentives to buy electric or hybrid. one could argue we had it coming.

IMO, grocery bags aren't worth worrying about. It's like doing a disk cleanup and focusing on every 1 kb file. Sure, every little bit helps but....:dunno: It's automobiles primarily.

Today's entry level Mustang does better on mpg than my '96, so I'm sure that conventional technology has helped a great deal in reducing oil consumption. But, at this point we have to ask ourselves, how quickly do we need to go from 0-60, and how much cabin space do we really need? Not only that, can't we drift over to other technologies so we don't have to pop big oil zits in our backyard and kill marine life (and people for that matter). Is that too much to ask? Hybrids could probably cut our oil consumption in half. Add in a little solar, wind, natural gas, and some nuclear. Ten years from now (if not sooner) all electric vehicles could be all the rage. But no, according to some people, we have to drill in our backyard and risk destroying our way of life just so they can make a buck, greedy batturds.

People live in a dream world if they think that in our life time there will be a world without oil. And that is what I think we will call a, just have to agree to disagree thing. FYI, i do reduce, reuse and recycle and my home doesn't have granite, marble or crown moulding either. If I was considering new construction you betcha I would look into the things you have done, all I can do now is to try to make my home more efficient. I really resent the inference that I hate the earth etc. etc. and that those that are against drilling are somehow superior.
I do appreciate your response to my question, but I have one more do you still drive a car?

WHO in the heck here is saying that we should stop using ALL OIL TODAY :dunno: We need oil. We just need to CONSERVE! You are totally in the "let's pick a fight" mode and I don't see that as productive.
