Is the vocal majority on this board still vociferously opposed to Neighborhood Electric Vehicle expansion (for the last 2 miles of 30A that are NEV forbidden) on 30A as they were a couple months ago?

Still opposed to slow moving and unsafe vehicles made of plastic on the highway (and the bike paths ).

Still a major advocate of high mpg vehicles, carpooling, bike riding, walking, hybrids, mass transit, and any alternative energy vehicles that actually meet crash test standards and can go the posted speed limit.

And the Scootermobile is still using less than 10 gallons of gas a week.........or 2.

I have an electric 4 wheel drive car, street legal, insured, that I drive down on the beach and around my neighborhood. I love it...but would never want to travel on 30A with it...

Yes that pretty good, but I have two questions. One is how long before Geo wants his vehicle back, and two...how many bloody carrots do you go through?! :D

I am still recovering from the family in the "Neighborhood Electric Vehicle" that came flying out of a Seagrove side road and almost hit me, which made me swerve and almost hit an oncoming car. They wouldn't have had a chance. Thankfully nobody was on the bikepath.

Oh c'mon- what is this fancy name for a golf cart? Dress it up, give it a license plate- it still is not "safety appropriate" for busy roads.

I am visiting family in KY this week, and my mom lives in a place that is much more golf cart friendly- less traffic, users stay off the main thoroughfares (the town equivalent of 30A), kids aren't careening around everywhere, nobody piles 6 people and 3 coolers in one cart, etc. In other words, I don't grit my teeth, genuflect, and pray when I see one.

Expect to see three times the number on the road by 2014. That's where tax dollars are being directed through incentives to manufacturers and buyers.

I drove along 30-A east from about Cocoon's to Seacrest this morning specifically observing the terrain, and guess what? There is no "Neighborhood". For the most part it was nothing but pine trees, coastal dune lakes, and more pine trees. I love pine trees as much as the next guy, but I sure don't want to study them in detail as I'm driving 25mph behind a golf-cart. This is not a Neighborhood. It's a scenic rural highway.

Incentives directed toward highway-drivable golf carts? It'll be a challenge to meet safety codes. And owners are going to love paying those insurance premiums. ...
