O'Wal
ugabuga, have you read the over 2000 page healtcare bill? I certainly haven't but I know at least two doctors that are not happy with it. All the things you listed could have been done much easier and more efficiently along with tort reform if Congress had used a little common sense.
My second question. Have you ever lived under universal health care? My second son was born under the British healthcare system. It was a explosive birth, at home, not with the physician who had attended my wife throughout her pregnancy because he was on vacation. My son was very lucky to survive and did not have the care he would have here in the U.S. He has had a hard time in life because he developed vision problems due probably to his birth. I want no part of a healthcare system that mirrors the British system. If we had the British system my wife would probably be dead today and I'd be a lonely old man. You had better know what you are getting before you laude it so thoroughly.

let's grenade medicare!!!!!!!!!!!!

(1) No, I haven't read the 2000+ page bill either; but I know at least two physicians who Are happy with it.
(2) Yes, I lived in The Netherlands, and I thought their Universal Health Care system worked wonderfully. I'm very sorry for the problems your family had with the British system. However, I'm sure there are many others who can/would relate positive experiences under the same system. Also, I'm sure there are many who can/would relate terrible horror stories occurring under the U.S. private health insurance system.

Oh, AndyA, one more point:

The Health Insurance Reform Act, as I understand it, doesn't come anywhere close to making our system like the British system. Our doctors would still be private, they wouldn't work for the gov't like in the British system.

There is/was a lot of talk about not wanting the gov't to be between me & my doctor. Well, right now, my for-profit health insurance company stands between me & my doctor, telling me/him/her what procedures & medicines are allowed. My insurance co. wants to minimize costs & maximize profits; their primary interest may be their stockholders rather than me. Why should I trust a for-profit corporation more than I trust the gov't on healh care?

I don't see how someone can defraud a capitalist society except by thievery from merchants, not the government. When we are defrauded now, it's our 'social' programs. And, it's accomplished by more evil people I suspect, some of which are even physicians.

Oh, and the taxing authority is probably cheated.

BTW, my friend also mention with joy and pride that he'll be on our Medicare program in 'two years time.'. He has afterall paid into our system and his birthrite grants him access to England. I'd be willing to guess that this occurs more than we can begin to fathom.

Sorry, but I am still pissed off that you find nothing wrong with what your "friend" is doing and see it as a problem of society and not him being an opportunistic weasel.

Social programs don't defraud the government/taxpayers, PEOPLE defraud the government/taxpayers by using social programs meant to help those in need.

Your "friend" is taking money from all of our pockets.

Congress has been defrauding the taxpayers for decades. Why shouldn't her friend get in on the action? It's an everyone for themselves kind of game. If you don't play it, you're the one left holding the bag of debt.
