When Pat Buchanan took Newt to task for saying,

?Nazis don't have the right to put up a sign next to the Holocaust museum in Washington,?

maybe Pat was just trying to stick up for the Nazis.

This whole mosque controversy is just another Freedom Fries moment for our country. Remember back when about 70% of the country thought the term was really cool? Now they look back in embarrassment. Of course unlike today, the jingoistic administration egged them on. Sadly, the average american has the emotional maturity of a 6th grader. I'm glad at least we have an adult in the White House.

I went to Philadelphia last fall for game three of the world series and decided to visit Geno's for a cheese steak sandwich. When my son and I got to the window we noticed they only served "freedom fries", since I refuse to eat those things we ordered french fries and recieved them with a scowal.

I remember a little about the Freedom Fries. Didn't that have more to do with loans to France by Muslim Nations that were being forgiven after 9.11.01, which is why France wasn't supportive of the Western World - inclusive of "nations which harbour terrorists" - this was the biggest sticking point if I remember?

I also recall after just a few short months of their decision, France pleading to Americans to buy their yummy wines because there had been an almost national boycott after learning the real reason for France's decision. It was all about money and how France could profit, nothing more and certainly not placing human capital first.

And, you all know by now that I love the French, so there's no reason for me to take an opposing position.......except for the facts.

I thought it was because they would not invade Iraq with us? That was my memory.:dunno:

According to a statement released by Ney, this move was intended to express displeasure with France's "continued refusal to stand with their U.S. allies" . The statement further read: "This action today is a small but symbolic effort to show the strong displeasure many on Capitol Hill have with our so-called ally, France."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_fries#cite_note-1

Yes, and it came out just shortly after all of the money they had borrowed.

I guess they call them french fries again.
In May 2005, Representative Jones, having arrived at the belief that the United States went to war "with no justification", said of the "freedom fries" episode: "I wish it had never happened."By July 2006, the House had changed the name of the two foods in all of its restaurants back to "French fries" and "French toast"

I personally like my fries and toast to be raised free range:D
