My statement was that someone who had once been severely injured, run up large medical bills, and healed could now get insurance - instead of being denied by companies concerned that the accident could cause problems decades in the future.

we need to hold folks accountable for bad decisions.

I won't even go into the circumstances that led up to the 21 yr old becoming uninsured, but she has a story, like many others. Sometimes things happen with jobs, school, finances and they happen at a bad time. Pretty much that was her situation.

BTW, it is one thing to disagree with policy but when I read statements like this and the one by Andy (hi Andy) using terms like "undeserving" and "illegals" I just shake my head in disbelief.
:dunno:

People should have the right to make that decision on their own, and live with the consequences of their decisions.

See my response above. Shame on you guys for being SO judgmental! :nono1: You have NOT walked in her shoes and do NOT know her story. I bet you hope that one day you are not in a situation where you are forced to leave needed care because you lost your insurance.

Gidget, my feelings exactly. I really do not understand a person who is so quick to judge others; who are we to know whether or not someone "deserves" to have a benefit or whether or not extenuating circumstances have led to a horrible situation. I have lived long enough to know that no one knows what is going on with another person; why some people feel as though they have the right to be this judgmental and uncaring is a mystery to me. I am glad that the majority of folks seem to have more compassion. I hope that this young woman is able to recover from this horrific accident and put her life back together again. It's bad enough what the insurance companies have gotten away with for years; it's even worse when one has no compassion for a fellow human being.
But, I've been on this message board long enough to know that some posters can not be persuaded from judgment and an seemingly uncaring attitude.

I'm out of "thanks" but I wanted to thank you Glenda for your post and for the best wishes for her recovery. She's a remarkable young woman.

The intent is to get coverage for future claims after the accident has happened correct? Insurance companies don't do this because they almost always lose money. One problem leads to another... It's a bad financial decision. That's one major reason why rates are now skyrocketing, unless your union, they got a special deal.

In a car accident you can fix the cosmetic damage but it severely diminishes the value because future buyers don't know what else has been damaged as a result. It appears to be healed but in most cases it's not. It's a risk that more often than not costs the buyer more money.

Please don't jump into a discussion on policy and try to make it personal then accuse those you disagree with on the policy as being judgemental and insensitive. Personal attacks are not allowed here so I've been told.

Maybe the policy is based on a morally bankrupt set of values.

The fact that you think being asked to have some compassion and decency is a "personal attack" explains a lot.
