I can take the teasing. Please note that there has been a little more decorum since I made that post. Maybe hell will freeze over next. I am glad I was wrong!!

You are very cool BeachSioO2.

When gay marriage finally passes and is adopted for all 50 states, hopefully in my lifetime, I will move from Left/Extreme Left to Center/Left and be a much sweeter Sowaller.

I for one have no problem with gays in the military. If they choose to serve, so be it. As to the fear of "immoral" behavior, treat them exactly like a heterosexual who harasses someone or misbehaves and move on. Far to much time and effort has been spent of this item.

I've underlined the operative word. This shall be an uneventful policy change that time and effort were necessary to bring about.

For years I have thought bible influence was a good thing.

It's not the scriptures that are the issue....it is the "interpretation" of the scriptures by man for their own agenda that is the issue....

Bible influence is fine to help people make their own personal life choices if that is their belief system. However as a country of religious freedom, the bible should never be the basis for laws beyond universal ethics and morals that transcend religion.

Right here!

What defines a universal ethic or moral? When you get right down to it, a world without religion could be a very ugly, cut throat kind of place. One of the primary purposes of religion was to create community stability. Take that away, teach everyone that we live under a new code of "there are no consequences if you can get away with it" might result in some rather negative results.

(Plus I loose my advantage, I already know there are no consequences if you can get away with it.)

Morality can be based on reason. I don't need scripture that it's wrong to throw acid in somebody's face. The net effect of religion is that it is absolutely useless. It seems effective only because it occasionally puts out its own fires.

"You better watch out. You better not cry. You better not pout I'm telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town. He sees you when you're sleeping. He knows when you're awake. He knows if you've been bad or good so you better be good, for goodness sake."

If the kids found out there was no Santa Claus they would never behave...
