Well here we go, but I would put it's chance of passing the Senate during the next couple of weeks right above the likelihood that forum members will treat each other with respect (whether they deserve it or not).

Breaking News Alert: House votes to repeal 'don't ask, don't tell'
December 15, 2010 5:27:31 PM
----------------------------------------

House lawmakers voted 250 to 175 to end the ban on gays serving openly in the military. The legislation could be considered next week in the Senate, where efforts to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" law have languished.

About damn time! Here's hoping the Senate follows suit now that it is a separate bill.

"It's "the only law in the country that requires people to be dishonest or be fired if they choose to be honest," said Rep. Jared Polis, D-Colo.

The House, in introducing the stand-alone bill, sought to avoid the complications of combining it with a general defense bill. Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., are also promoting a stand-alone bill in the Senate and supporters say they have the 60 votes for passage if they can get it to the Senate floor."

I love this comment:
"Gays have been in the military for many many years and we haven't lost a war because of them yet. We've damn near lost some wars because of too many idiots in Washington though."

I agree and hope it can get passed but it's such a political tool that I can see it used as a bargaining chip in the next Congress. I think it will come down to approving the Omnibus/Continuing Resolution, START Treaty and DADT with DADT being passed over. I hope I'm wrong.

Early reports are that since the Omnibus has been pulled DADT has moved up on the agenda with a vote expected in the next couple of days.

I can take the teasing. Please note that there has been a little more decorum since I made that post. Maybe hell will freeze over next. I am glad I was wrong!!
