They wouldn't pull over like a car is supposed to? Don't all lsv's go 25mph?

If you want to prove your environmental cred, order up a Nissan Leaf like Dave did, or cruise over to PC and buy yourself a Volt. I still believe the whole electric golf cart/speed limit thing is about people who want to sell them wanting the county to enable their ambition by lowering the speed limit. They profit, we suffer.

This horse is beyond dead... I'll bring up my favorite point: do you really want the firetruck that is coming to save your house, or the ambulance that is going to save your granny from a heart attack, to be trying to manuever around a herd of golf carts meandering at 15mph?

Ah, Lake View...

There is so much wrong with that statement. Golf Carts are not the street legal vehicles we are talking about. And the vehicles we are talking about go 25 mph. And I would certainly hope that the driver of ANY vehicle would pull over for the firetruck and ambulance you speak of.

Sorry to say but a lot of people cannot afford a brand new LEAF or VOLT at this time with our economy. LSVs are an extremely cost effective alternative. With the tax credits last year people were essentially able to buy a new, "green" electric vehicle for all their commuter purposes for $3,000-$6,000 . Not bad a for a new "car"...especailly when most of our driving is within 10-20 miles of home.

And Andrew, I asked about the cost per mile it takes to run a LSV. I am told that what it comes down to is $0.03 (or $0.04) per mile to run and the electricity it takes to charge the vehicle is equivalent to running your TV set.

The more I find out about these little vehicles, the more good I see in them!

If their top speed is 25, don't you think they might be going about 18 to 20 most of the time. And every vehicle behind them would be going 20mph. At this speed, it would take over a hour and twenty minutes to drive the length of 30-A. That would mean back and forth commuting times of over two hours for some of us. Really?

Furthermore, do they have the suspensions to pull-off 30-A at a moment's notice?

These vehicles may have their place but not on a 22 mile long strtch of mostly rural highway.

I rest my case. It's not about safety.

Have you ever thought about an ambulance trying to get a row of forty slow moving vehicles to all pull off the road in an urgent manner? It's about safety, and it's about what's practical for the majority of the population.

If anybody out there has any information or links to a place that has used these vehicles on a 22 miles of rural highway, with sucess, feel free to contribute.

Right here!
Why don't we make it legal for these to run on the bike path then? All the problems mentioned here would be addressed.
