wow.
Even though this topic may seem like a dead horse, I am glad that so many of you are still compelled to write about it.
I also feel that it is necessary to comment on the subject. As a local, I can see the point many of you are trying to make. We don't really trust whats "new" (and that includes tourists because they are new to the area as well as these new vehicles), but I have spent a lot of time listening to owners and experts in this field and I am convinced that these LSVs and NEVs (synonymous terms) are a fantastic stepping stone for the direction of our economy.
Yes, they are not the definitive answer for all our transportation, but they are a good improvement. Gas is estimated to go up to $5.00/gal soon enough. I think its great that a person wants to walk, bike, or drive a low speed electric vehicle that 10-20 mile stretch of land that is his or her community.
Mind you, I too panic when I see people being stupid driving something they are not familiar with, in a place they are not familiar with. I also panic when these same people are on scooters (which go waaay faster, making the people seem waayy dumber) and even with some people on bicycles (whatever happened to hand signals?)
But I think what we need to realize is that this movement IS happening. Its a happening all around our country. It is a slow, progressive movement, but we are moving towards electric vehicles. (isnt that great?) The technology is coming.
What WE need to do is educate ourselves along the way. I am glad I am asking the experts. And if there is something you are unsure of, ask. Know the difference between LSV's and Golf Carts. Know the regulations on where to drive, who can drive, and HOW to drive them. Just being a part of this forum is educating because you know they are out there and to be careful, mindful drivers (as we all should be anyway).
I am also glad to be reading this forum because I am learning a lot from all of you too.
