I am not sure if this is the place to post this so Kurt, please let me know if needs to go somewhere else. Thanks!

I am going shopping for a new vacuum cleaner this weekend and wanted to get some opinions because I don't even know where to start. :dunno: Obviously I do not want to spend $400 for a Dyson, but would still like a good quality vacuum. I just moved into a new house with carpet and tile floors. Mostly tile, with carpet in the bedrooms. I just wanted to get some opinions on which vacuums you like/dislike and why. Thanks!

You can't go wrong with the Dyson. They are worth the $$ and are durable.

If I ever win the lottery....a dyson is the first thing I'm going to buy.

My husband is sold on Oreck's, we have had our for about 5 years and it does a good job going from surface to surface. But I told him if he chooses the vacuum, he has to be the one to use it :D

Dyson. Seriously, you will not regret it, they really are worth the hype. I was lucky enough to be given one as a gift a few years ago, and it is far and away the best vacuum I've ever used, period. I have a dog and a cat (or two ;) and I'm pretty sure I would've ripped the carpet out with my bare hands by now if not for the Dyson. I would set up a shrine to it if I had the space.

We have an Oreck at the beach house and love it. It works well, and is SO light. Love that!

The cleaning service in GA tore up our Royal (they don't check the bags, don't check the belts, etc.), so we decided to buy another Oreck. The XL Silver is $429.95. Yikes! But the Oreck store had the Collegiate Series version on sale for $199.95. We bought a Gator one. While we were at the Oreck store, we saw Oreck Cleaning Supplies - Carpet and Upholstery | Oreck professional dry carpet cleaner cleans carpets, upholstery and removes allergens, odor and dirt. Try now with risk free trial. - Oreck -- OMG, a dry carpet-cleaning product called Capture developed by my husband! We have always cleaned our carpet with that product. But I've had to get down on my hands and knees with a brush to rub it in. Oreck now has a product to brush the powder in, so no need to get down on my knees. Oreck Floor Care Machines | The Oreck Ultra Orbiter cleans carpets and hardwood & tile floors. Clean, Polish and Buff. - Oreck It was $399.95, but it paid for itself in its first use last week when we cleaned our carpet in GA and FL. Our 1988 carpet in GA looks new, and the carpet in FL after years of rentals looks new. Awesome! It takes very little time to clean the carpet this way, and it is superior because it doesn't leave the soapy residue that wet carpet cleaning does which causes your carpet to attract dirt and get dirty again faster.:D

We love our Miele, but spent as much on it as you would a Dyson.

Our previous vacuum was a mid-level Sears model that was perfectly servicable for carpet & tile, but the mister wanted to get a new one when we remodeled, and since he's the one in charge of that household chore, he got to pick what he wanted.

haha KTS! That's what I told my husband. He is all about the Dyson with the Ball. I am pretty sure he just wants it because it looks cool.

If you go with a Ball make sure you don't accidentally get the light duty one. They just came out with a version for all floors.

If you don't have animals, stay away from the "Animal" versions. They charge you a lot of $$ for a powered attachment for the hose that runs a beater bar off of the suction.

The DC17 and DC33 will suck the most for the money!

HAHA! Its funny that you say that Will B. We borrowed my inlaws' vacuum the other day and when we took it back I said "Your vacuum sucks!!!!" And they looked at me like I was crazy and then I said, no it literally sucks! :)
