My vacuum doesn't blow but it SUCKs great! :D I have a Kirby and I love it! There IS a story here though. I never in my life would have though I would pay so much for a vacuum cleaner. I don't remember exactly how much the Kirby cost us, but as I recall it was almost as much as our house payment at the time. I know for a fact we actually financed the sucker! Mind you, we did not go out shopping for a vacuum and we were not even thinking about buying a vacuum at the time. We already had a vacuum cleaner, it didn't suck very good but I was happy enough. Connor was very young and I think Cameron was on the way when "ding dong".....yep! The door to door vacuum cleaner guy shows up at our door and would like us to take a look at his fabulous vacuum that he has for sale. I am already saying thank you but we are not interested when Chris invites the guy in for a demonstration! All I can say is that guy put on a great show! He sucked up a bucket of sand from our carpet along with god knows what else (we had a sand box at the time that we couldn't keep Connor out of! He loved that sand box and had a million and one trucks and hot wheels in that thing!) As soon as I saw all the dirt and sand that the Kirby sucked up out of my carpet, which I thought was pristine and clean, (heck I had just vacuumed with my non-sucker vacuum that very morning!)....I was sold! The only problem was that we couldn't afford the darn thing. That's when the guy really put on a show! The finance thing went through and bam!! I had a Kirby with every attachment, carpet cleaning device, hardwood flooring cleaning device etc.,etc. It was crazy at the time, but I LOVE my Kirby and it is the very best sucker in my book! ;-);-) And it should be for the price. Some of my friends do swear by their Dyson's though.

Couldn't believe my husband paid that outrageous price for our Kirby but we have used it for years and years with lots of children and pets. It has been a great machine!

Love the Oreck. My mother used it when I was a child, and I bought one when I got married. Very light and great cleaning. We have had ours for 20+ years, and it still works great!

Okay, so which vacuum cleaner holds up to a cleaning service? Our cleaning service has torn up both our Oreck and our expensive Royal. We are currently vacuum-cleaner-less.

Hubby went to HH Gregg and bought a Dyson without the ball and an Electrolux. If we were doing the vacuuming, we'd spend more money. But I am more concerned about the longevity of our vacuum cleaners. There's just two of us living here, we have a poodle who doesn't shed, so basically we just need two vacuum cleaners (one for downstairs and one for upstairs so they won't bang up the paint in the stairwell) that can fluff up the carpet and can withstand abuse.

Ok, so I guess I'm the only one of just two negative reviews about the Dyson.... we bit the bullet and got one from Lowe's. Upright, not the ball one, just regular- and I am stunned that I do not read more reviews complaining about how TIGHT and difficult it is to use the hose!!! I mean, it feels like it is 'magnetized' to pull itself back together, so when you try to stretch the hose out, there's always a pull back, and it's extremely annoying. No, it's not annoying, it's UNUSEABLE. Again, I am stunned that such a flaw could go unnoticed? Maybe I got a flawed unit. I think we did, as the other problem was when you would take it out of it's upright position, and the motor would kick in, much of the time it would make this LOUD obnoxious noise, as if something was grinding against the spinning of the brush mechanism. Between those two problems, we took it back. Granted, when it wasn't doing that, it did 'suck' very well. I kept hoping that with time the hose would weaken it's stubborn pull, but it did not get better. :sosad: Still looking for another vacuum....

Before we got Fraulein Miele, we had a $150 Sears-Kenmore model that seemed to do a very good job as long as you changed the belt about every 3 years. It still worked well when we got rid of it, but the spousal unit was offering to take over all vacuuming responsibility in the house after we tore out the carpet if we got him a canister vac, and the Miele was the canister vac he wanted.
