I must see this hair-do, MK!!! It sounds adorable.

I would possibly go for a perm for something different and for body, but do NOT make me do rollers or a flat iron or anything beyond a blow dryer, ever again! I was cured of hot rollers way back when.

DD - mine is flat and straight (naturally) which is kind of boring.. but, personally, I'm ready for SHORT again! super short!

Doesn't flat-ironing your hair after round brush drying it defeat the purpose of round brush drying it?

You're not old enough to have gray hair. The round-brushing also smoothes the grays (which are dyed dark blonde). Flat-ironing alone would make it too flat. Round-brushing alone wouldn't totally get rid of the frizzies from the gray. But then to make it more stylish, I flat-iron just the sides to make it more straight and trendy looking.

Yes, I am really hoping I get the pretty straight white hair that streaks in rather than the grizzly gray.

But at that point I will either have crossed over to high maintenence land and my hairdresser will do it, or it won't matter because noone will dare get close enough to the crazy old lady to see it.

Does anyone know the genetic determinant? 3/4 grandparents had nice white hair, Grandpa Scooterbug went grey/bald.

Papa Scooterbug is grey/grizzly and Mama Scooterbug seems to be going mostly white with some grey frizziness (she dyes it so not sure).

And the stuff currently coming in seems to be white - but I have 5 different colors/types of hair so who knows how each one will react.

I would love to let the natural grey just come on out. but everyone says that is just "not done"... "not acceptable".. "not possible". some day I'll show them! don't have the nerve yet.

Fun fact - grey/white hair is God's way of making your wrinkles show up less as you age. Dark hair accentuates them more, which is why we go grey/white.

It depends on your hair. I know some women who have grey hair, own it, and look amazing. I think brunettes can more easily pull off good grey.

Aunt Scooterbug's hairdresser threatened her with violence if she dyed her fantastic grey hair. Both she and Grandma Scooterbug have dark brown hair that started to get grey streaks towards the front and then uniformed added more - so it's almost like grey high and low lights.

Daddy was bald at 21. His sisters have the grizzlies. Mom has gorgeous straight white hair.

Paternal grandfather was bald. His sisters had the grizzlies. Paternal grandmother had straight gray hair that went down to her waist, but she wore it in a bun.

Maternal grandfather had straight white hair. Maternal grandmother had the grizzlies.

So I think my probability of having the grizzlies has already exhibited itself. It is what it is.

Scooterbug, I'd say you are probable to have straight, white hair.

Scooterbug... don't know if this applies in your family, but in my family those with dark hair in youth turn silver; those with light hair turn cotton top white. Youthful straight hair comes in frizzly upon initial graying but seems to ease as time passes; whereas wavy / curly hair actually seems to 'relax'.

As for genetics... all I've ever heard is that mens' balding patterns are inherited from the maternal side. It's bearing out w/ my brothers... their pattern seems as our maternal grandfather.

Nope. Round brushing gets it laying in the direction I want it to go, and gives it nice lift... Flat ironing smooths it and makes it shiny and lustrous!

Together, it makes for some pretty spectacular FABULOUSITY!
