In a new bill, two Senators are proposing to require all federal employees be current on their taxes or subject to termination. Is this fair and reasonable or a little bit too much like Big Brother? Should this also be considered by state legislatures or is this just another assault on government employees? The plot thickens.

Sens. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) have teamed up to take on federal employees who don?t pay their taxes.
The senators announced Wednesday that they have filed a bill that seeks to collect an estimated $1 billion in back taxes owed by federal employees by threatening the employees with termination if they don't pay up.

?The bill requires all federal employees to be current on their federal income taxes or be fired from their jobs. This is a common sense bill that most Americans would believe is reasonable, necessary, and likely surprised that it is not already the standard throughout the federal government,? Coburn?s office stated in a press release.

1) Why do we need this bill? Can't the IRS just enforce existing tax laws?

2) What happens when someone is not current because of an audit or error?

3) My guess is that the elected officials are as big of a problem as the employees.

4) Why can't we just garnish their wages?

Right here!
Grand scheme of things, the I.R.S. is the most evil organization on the planet. So I'll pretty much side with anyone else when asked to choose sides. Bad bill.

Yeah, if Congress ever got the guts to seriously look at, and revise the present tax code of 17,000 pages, maybe we could get some control of everyone's taxes, not just government employees.

Define current. Are we to infer from the bill that a government employee can't even be on a payment plan due to a windfall non-exempt income source or are we talking about flagrant violators?

(Can you tell I've been reading tax forms this week?)

Good luck getting them to pay back taxes after removing their income source!

The I.R.S. can pretty much take anything of value, including bank and investment accounts, homes, cars, boats, your first born, whatever they want. The courts will back them up completely.
