Great info, but looks like I'm free and clear from the Sales tax, however I was wondering if anyone else's bills have been unusually high the last two months? According to my statement I'm more than doubling my total kwh used than Jan and Feb of last year but havent done anything different other than NOT using my dryer because its broken. If not, does anyone know how to check if somethings running my power usage up? Thanks in advance for the help!

If you call they will send someone out to check the meter to make sure it is runnning properly. I know someone else who did this. Thanks for all the information from everyone also.

I emailed Chelco and had them send me a copy of the papers to sign and I got a $670 credit on my electric bill! This is such a huge help right now. They have been charging me this tax for years.
Did anyone find out any information of how to get a refund on the charges beyond 3 years since this seems to be the cut off for refund from Chelco?

That's great news! I called the state office of revenue and they told me the statute of limitations was three years. Someone else can check if they wish.

I'm looking at my bill now. I don't see a State sales tax, but i do have a gross receipts tax of 5.90. ANYTHING i can do to get my bill lowered, I will do....

Thanks for the info!!

Just to confirm - the tax that they shouldn't be billing is the state sales tax, not the gross receipts tax? I've been charged by Gulf Power the Gross Receipts tax, but not the sales tax.

You are correct. I just spoke to Chelco... only state sales tax is refundable (NOT gross receipts tax.)

good news for you! How long did it take for the refund? I filled out the papers too; they had been charging me sales tax for 12 years! Yikes! And, they took my application over the phone and someone (not me) checked the line for sales tax, according to Chelco.

I sent the papers back to them about a week or so ago and I just checked online last night and the credit was there so it didn't take long at all. I didn't get any notice from them and I had already received my bill for last month by the time I sent the paperwork back.

Well, here's the latest on my CHELCO bill. I received it yesterday and no credit though the sales tax had been removed. I called them and they said I did have to fill out a second form and sign it in front of two witnesses. We went down to the CHELCO office and they were very nice and helped us out with the form. About two hours later they called us, told us not to pay our recent bill and we were due a credit of $503.56. That is fast service! Thank you, CHELCO for all you do! Also, THANK YOU, CARMEN!!! Without your "heads up" I'd still be paying sales tax.
