I wonder how many high end homeowners and condo owners are aware of the legislature's desire to "depopulate" Citizens? There are now laws on the books designed to limit the business that Citizens has been writing for years and move it to private insurers. If you have a $2,000,000 home and can't get insurance, how will that affect the values? A new financial crisis may be near.

I'm sure C. Jones will fix that for everyone.

Right after she explains why she Failed to submit her campaign finance report on time...

Too busy collecting $$$ from "special interest"...

Looks like $6000 of the $67,000 in her campaign war chest came from Jay Odom.

A little story for the upcoming election. In Charlie Crist's last year as governor, my insurance company, USAA, asked for a meeting to discuss raising their rate for windstorm insurance. Acording to USAA, their request was denied and consequently they discontinued writing windstorm insurance in Florida. Both parties are to blame. There hasn't been a hurricane in Florida since Dennis, which wasn't, in 2005. Yet I, and thousands of other Floridians pay for floood, tornados and hurricanes in other parts of the U.S.. USAA will take our money for all other insurance and use some of it to pay these claims. Christ is guilty of ignoring a very good company overall request to discuss a premium increase. USAA is an excellent insurance company and I have been with them over 50 years but in this one instance they treat their thousand of Florida policy holder shabbily.

A lot of insurance companies won't write property insurance in Florida and Citizens has been the insurer of last resort. I sold my condo in Seagrove Beach last October and Citizens was my only option for windstorm coverage for more than 15 years. Not many people are aware of the recent changes the legislature has put in place for Citizens, but the dung is going to hit the fan when property owners find out that wind coverage is no longer available from Citizens and they get non renewal notices. It ought to be interesting. For the record, Governor Scott has said he'd like to do away with Citizens and you can't force companies to write insurance in Florida.

That's a shame to hear what happened with USAA. I also tried to insure with them earlier this year and ended up with Citizens as my one and only option. Hopefully, this mess will be resolved and allow a quality insurance company like USAA to do business here.

When the new rules that the legislature has put in place for Citizens kick in, even Citizens won't be an option for a lot of property owners. Insurance companies have already left Florida in droves and aren't likely to come back.

USAA has no affiliation with the US government, DOD, or any branch of the military other than providing banking and insurance products to their employee's. That makes them a private company. If they chose not to offer their product in Florida then why are you asking the government to step in?

Guess that over regulation and socialism is bad until it directly affects you huh?
