Before the president is accused of using millions of times the vetoes of past presidents lets put the record on the table:

http://www.senate.gov/reference/Legislation/Vetoes/vetoCounts.htm

President (Years)Coinciding CongressesVetoes
RegularPocketTotalOverridden
Barack H. Obama (2009-present)113-1112 0 2 0
George W. Bush (2001-2009)110-10712 0 12 4

William J. Clinton (1993-2001)
106-10336 1 37 2

George H. W. Bush (1989-1993) [SUP]1[/SUP]
102-10129 15 44 1

Ronald Reagan (1981-1989) [SUP]2[/SUP]
100-9739 39 78 9

Jimmy Carter (1977-1981)
96-9513 18 31 2

The list does go back to Washington, but I figured we could limit it to recent presidents.

Also, the all time record is 372 held by FDR, and for a 2 term president the record is 180 with Truman.

Since it'll probably come up I put this up here as people went nuts when the president went on vacation following the most vacationed president of all time.

Lets revisit this thread after the next two years....or even the next two months once the new congress is seated. I'm gonna go out on a limb and predict that we will soon have a new leader.

I agree, Boehner will be replaced.

I think the greatest source of cognitive dissonance is going to be between Mitch MCConnel and Ted Cruz. MCConnel has an opportunity to make history by striking deals with the President. Deep down, that may be what he wants to do, but it will difficult for him to resist the pressure and temptation to go full retard along with the GOP base. GOP congress is far more cray cray than the Senate, but still, with guys like Cruz in the mix, there will be relentless pressure to go all in on some really terrible impossible ideas such as totally dismantling ACA or impeaching the President. The Repubs always squander their good fortune. It happens every time. It happened in 2012. There is no way they should have hande victory to Obama, but that is in fact what they did. I have complete confidence that they will screw themselves once more.

Well, I'm not sure about Boehner, but I am positive about Harry Reid.

That's pretty good that you were able to deduce that that the majority leader can't be someone in the minority party.

You know exactly what I was saying. Keep spinning, you're beginning to look like a top.

It's pretty clear to me that Mitch McConnell is the level head in the senate and is trying to keep things civil. Unfortunately the teatards won't be happy until they've completely destroyed the GOP.

Isn't part of the reason so many Republicans won is because a lot of them are non-teabaggers? Isn't the tea party starting to look more and more like a failed experiment? I'm not optimistic, but aside from Ted Cruz (and maybe Rand Paul), I don't know if the crazy level in the Senate is all that high. Congress is a different story, but that's always been a barnyard of crazy oddball lunatics. You'd swear they were all from Florida. I think the GOP is starting to remove some of the tea stain, but maybe I'm wrong. Tell me.
