The changes Panama City Beach is considering to solve their Spring Break Issues are intense.

As reported on WZEP AM 1460:

After last year's debacle of shootings, underage drinking, sexual assaults and fights, the PCB City Council is proposing four new ordinances.

One proposed ordinance would ban two- and three-wheel scooters after Sept. 5, 2017. Another proposed ordinance would amend the city’s short-term vacation rentals by owner as permitted by state law, require registration of each unit, require a designation of a responsible party for each unit and specify maximum occupancy limits. A third draft ordinance would require business parking lots to be closed or actively supervised when the business is closed.

Another draft ordinance would amend the city’s special events ordinance, which previously required a city permit and that the event organizer meet conditions such as providing security and EMS personnel if the event exceeded 500 people. The new ordinance addresses “spontaneous unpermitted events,” requiring organizers to “reduce the activity or circumstances which caused the assembly to become a special event.” It also requires that applications for medium- or large-sized events must be submitted 60 days in advance — instead of 30 — if they are held during March, Memorial Day weekend, Fourth of July and its closest weekend or Labor Day weekend.

Many business owners are not pleased and say the proposed ordinances do not address the real issue of underage drinking but focus only on businesses.

Walton County Commissioners are trying to stay a step ahead by considering amending the ordinance regulating consumption of alcohol on the beach during spring break.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, beginning at 4:00 p.m at the South Walton Annex.

I'm planning a spring break vacation away from gulf coast beaches. I don't need crowds and traffic when I need a break.

Is Miramar Beach the new Panama City Beach or just east Destin?

College kids ( even in groups of 10) can't afford Miramar or 30A.....
Apparently you have never driven Scenic 98 in Miramar Beach during spring break where every condo and house balcony is hosting a spring break party. The section of beach at the Whales Tail is almost invisible due to the number of college kids having fun.

A lot of kids are staying in mom and dad's house or condo. And if not they have no problem affording just about anyplace in SoWal. The only hurdle is sometimes needing someone over 25 to sign them in which ain't much of a hurdle for most rental companies.

oh, but they can. and do. every year. I have several friends here who are second home owners who rent their homes on Scenic 30A but are very careful not to rent to kids during spring break or ever. Sometimes they get in anyway - last year cops were called, kids and parents arrested, and all kicked out of the rental home in Seagrove Beach.

Weren't those high school kids? That'salways been the problem here. Mom rents a cottage in Seaside and checks 24 high school girls into the party house. Most common heard phrase during spring break "they're really good kids" usually said to law enforcement.
