Democrats in general are not out of touch with rural folks. We do have a very small vocal minority that wants them to use proper pronouns, but that group could alienate anyone with their insanity.

It is just my opinion based on my rural roots and the people I communicate with every day. I think the disconnection is more related to the Democratic Party not putting the time and money into geographic areas that they feel will never listen to their message. I think many people would listen if the messages keeps coming loud and clear...conservative extremism is not the real America. DeSantis should have been punished at the polls for his extremism. We need to ask the questions why? We all saw Crist do his best to punish that extremism during the debate but he had very little support to push the message that conservative extremism is bad for everyone. Each of us need to do more to show the Democratic Party that we are here...

We need more democratic candidates like John Fetterman who take an aggressive offensive approach. Clearly that's what works. Crist is just too passive. If Crist had relentlessly pushed DeSantis's buttons the way Gillum did, he might be governor. Beto, didn't win Texas, but he did a lot better than Crist. He pounded away at Abbott. He trolled him. He was even obnoxious at times.

One exception to what I'm saying is Democrat Katie Hobbs of Arizona. She took a passive congenial avoidant approach in the battle with Kari Lake, and I think she is going to win the governorship. I believe it's because enough people realize that Lake is off-the-charts batshit crazy. DeSantis doesn't fall into that category.

I do not think Crist was/is "passive". I think he is "civil". I think people will eventually relate more to civil but it depends on where you are. Some people do want/need aggressive styles. My son-in-law is from Philadelphia and all you got to do is attend a sporting event to understand why Fetterman was more connected than Oz. Crist has the ability but his nature is calm and calculated. He has control over his emotions. Arizona is split between the two styles. Florida is a heavy lean toward aggressive styles and Cuban Hispanics are the deal breaker group. Florida is complicated. I think women are getting a little tired of the aggressive behavior. That is the key to Florida. DeSantis is going down that same path as Lake but just a little behind. Trust me he will eventually catch up because he does not have great control over his emotions and power can do funny things to some people...

A person can be both civil and on the offensive at the same time. Fetterman was one example. Obama is like that. If DeSantis is somehow the GOP presidential nominee in 2024, I don't think the Crist approach is going to work. So you need to attack, but in a high-minded and intelligent manner. I do think Biden is perfectly capable of this.

I think a lot of DeSantis's appeal is to disaffected Floridians who have long felt that Florida has long been looked at as our nation's red headed stepchild, penis, anus, etc. whatever you want to call it. The Gov is the man who defied the establishment, and at least in their eyes showed strength. His divisiveness, cruelty, and deliberate spread of misinformation was overlooked. I guess when your standards are low, these traits can be viewed as swag and charisma. So these folks finally feel like they've got some mojo. It doesn't say much for their sense of self-worth to begin with. I do think you are right about DeSantis. If Kari Lake is "Trump in heels", Ron will soon morph into "Lake in white boots".
