Did anyone hear about Daniel Radcliffe performing in a revival of Equus?
This play gave me the creeps when it first came out--kinda sad plot line.
Anyway, check out buff Daniel:

Your my favorite spud vixen.Gee, thanks. :roll:I give you permission to jump the puddle and see the production.
And to the parent that won't let their kids see any more of his movies; Get over it. They'll go see them without you. And I hope they do.
why not let "harry" do his thing, and let's not compare him with our own children who are not even close to being in his "shoes"....:clap_1: to both of these posts. DR is an incredibly talented young man, and I say good for him for pushing some boundaries.

So, my view on it is this.
Yes, we've watched Harry/Daniel grow up via the HP movies. But that's the thing, he's growing up! People need to come to the realization about their favourite child stars (and their own children) that they grow up and YES they have bodies that are beautiful, function and (*super gasp*) sexual.
He's hot (though I do admit he needs a tan) and he's trying to break out of the Harry Potter thing. Seriously, do you guys wanna see him waving a wand around with huge glasses for the rest of his life? I don't.

I will stick to my ideals and be in the minority. I believe it is wrong for children to be portrayed in sexual situations. This has absolutely nothing to do with the beauty of the human body!

AIT thanks for joining in....I hope only the best for DR. I think expanding his boundries is a wonderful thing...that is what actors must do to become exceptional in their field.
I have no problem with nudity...just ask the women that were at the all night, smoking, drinking and cussing party in August.....

This is a non-event. As far as I know, my kids will not be traveling to London any time soon to see "Equus" on the British stage. Yes, Daniel Radcliffe is just 17, but he is not my child. My children won't be doing nude theater as minors (at least I hope Will's role in the Emerald Coast Middle School production of "The Secret Garden" does not involve nudity!
)
However, I am sure DR's choice of roles was well thought out - and remember, he may be 17, but he has had life experiences that make him quite a bit different than the average 17 year old, and taking this role is not in the same orbit as the celebrity kids his age that are drinking, drugging, and making bad choices every day.

All I have to say is that I sure as hell hope Hagrid doesn't go nude.
I don't know about that. I like my men on the hairy side. Unlike Hairless Potter.

AIT! Better than no glasses waving a huge wand around!:funn: This is a non-event....Why do you think they call it "The SECRET Garden"?

Just kidding. Secret Garden is a great play with a great life lesson. Kudo's to you and yours!:clap_1: :clap_1: :clap_1:

Excellent point. Look at the demise of child stars. You can't help but be reminded of it everytime you turn on VH1.
The making out with a horse bothers me more than the nudity.THAT actually is the point. But the play has been going on for over 30 years without incident. Different times, different cultures.
Besides, weren't Romeo and Juliet only 15 & 14? Of course there was no horse involved.
And before we continute to talk about nudity OVER THERE, we need to worry about the Nudity IN HERE!!! Would somebody PUH-LEASE through Miss Kitty a bathrobe? Really now. No. Really. NOW!

good god on a pogo stick! what the hell is this play about anyway?
>>"The kids loved it," teacher and director Michael Komarek said. "Once they stopped screaming about horses getting their eyes gouged out and realized that it was just a launching point for more complex ideas about alienation from the modern world, they rolled up their sleeves and dug right in."
>>"They really made it work," said proud parent Melanie Keever. "The producers achieved a very convincing effect of real blood spewing from the agonized animals' eye sockets using Karo syrup and red paper streamers."
"It tasted good, too!" said Kyle Keever, who was unable to resist licking some Karo syrup off of his hands during the eye-gouging scene.
i am not going to go totally incendiary over this, i promise, but the kids obviously didn't get this play
i am going to use the brainscrubber as soon as i finish this, so it does not warp my reality into some apocalyptic creation of a nature where humans are the 'top of the food chain' and are sick enough to believe than it won't affect the players, or their religion condones such a thing as ill-treatment of animals
thank the heavens above i was born a redneck and a pagan and would never let my child participate or endure being mind-manipulated in this manner

Ocean Lover, Supermom, and anyone else who thought that link was real, as PotatoVixen says, The Onion is totally fake (and sometimes it *totally* cracks me up.) ;-)

I think Romeo and Juliet were 16 and 14. I am old enough to remember what a huge deal it was when the movie came out in '69. Everyone in our class had to get a permission slip signed so that we could take a field trip to the theater (and see Romeo's naked tush.)

jdarg, you are always the voice of reason. I agree completely. this is not my child and it never will be my child, so why even think in those terms. and why do we always want to have a say about the choices of others?
I am interested in hearing about how he chose this role, and reviews of his performance. and I want to know about this particular play.

I think Supermom knows that The Onion is fake. She posted the link because it was a satircal story about Equus and gives those who are not familiar with the play an idea about its themes.

I'm sure this thread is winding to its end, but I have to throw in my 2 cents. There are hundreds of other plays that Daniel Radcliff could do to prove that he can play a character other than Harry Potter. He chose Equus, which is controversial in its themes (animal cruelty (and worse), etc.), besides the nudity. I believe he chose Equus deliberately for the shock value (and because it would make headlines). In a way he has betrayed the audience that made him famous in the first place. I think it was a very immature move on his part.
On nudity in general: I strongly believe in modesty and it is something we teach in our home to our daughter and to our sons. Loving your body also means respecting your body and respecting your body means not putting it on display for the whole world to see. A child can be familiar with all the correct names of their body parts (and even know what they do), but they can also have a maturity about their bodies and a respect for themselves so that they are appropriately covered.
A modest person is NOT a prude. A modest person has a mature attitude about their sexuality. A person who is modest in dress is also most likely modest in their behavior as well. We teach it in our home from a young age and our children are not only appropriately dressed, but also have appropriate and respectful behavior.
I want my daughter to be respected for who she is, not for how she looks in a bikini. I want my sons to respect young women for who they are, not how they look in a bikini, and I would hope that my sons can go about their business without being distracted my scantily clad girls.
I have never forced my daughter to wear certain clothes--she has had a lot of freedom in choosing what she wants to wear. And my sons have freedom as well, although it is obviously not such an issue as it is with girls.
As for violence vs. sex in movies/entertainment. I think they're both inappropriate for children and my children watch only PG and G movies. They are not sheltered, they know violence and sex exist, but what is the entertainment value in either for kids?

cck - thanks, and I love and agree with every single thing you have said about raising our children to respect themselves, etc. above all, I really want to instill these values in my little one. respect for self, others, healthy self-esteem, self-love, modesty but not shame in his body, healthy awareness of his sexuality, good decision making in all things, etc.
but, I don't see these issues as being related to Harry, his family or his decision (poor decision it may be) to be part of this play. or related to my child or my family in any way. I don't know why others want to take it so personally since it has nothing to do with their lives (this is what I have a hard time grasping).
the good thing about these kinds of issues, is it is so interesting that we all look at things in a wonderfully different way, and I don't think my way is best at all! it's just mine. thanks for sharing.
