It's a little graphic. I'm guessing the folks they plan to drag behind cars and blowtorch just aren't understanding enough of the nuanced Middle East culture.

I disagree with you SJ about exposing these tortures, beheadings etc. to the mass public. Most intelligent adults watch the news, have access to the internet, and other mediums if they need to see it and can handle it.
We all know what goes in the world.

Hell, I watched my friends die 9/11 live on television, and I resented the media constantly showing the same scene over and over again.

If I choose to watch it, that's my decision, but I don't need anyone sticking it in my face to make a point, either on television or on a message board.
It wasn't like 6th Gen hid the title of the link. His thread title is Torture in Iraq. I don't think the first post in here will be Scooby Doo. I saw the thread title and chose to open the link. I am not suggesting that anyone be forced to see it, or tricked into seeing the beheading videos. As I said, the beheading videos will shake you up and change the way you think about life, forever! I don't think most people can handle watching them, just as I don't think most people could watch the slaughter of a cow which they are eating in the form of a steak. Yes, they did show over and over again the coverage of the WTC on tv, but they haven't aired the beheading video clips on tv, and they won't.

Again, site scripture. I've sited the Koran on the other thread if you need to look it up. I agree that the majority of Muslims are peaceful, but they aren't very vocal about the rest that are highjacking thier religion and turning it into a death cult.

As I posted for you before. I believe this is the Scripture you desire.

As far as the Geneva Convention, see Alberto Gonzales' statement on the "quaintness" of it

No, 6th Gen didn't hide the title of the link, but it does come up on the main bulletin board everytime someone logs on.
Sowal is located in an area close to many military bases and I am sure there are many people who may visit this board with family serving in the military who are quite aware of what is going on in Iraq, but don't need a constant reminder of it.

6th gen says we don't have the stomach for war. Let him tell that to our servicemen in the military and their families while he sits on his self absorbed high horse in his office starting threads while showing disrepect for others opinions who post on them.

BTW- Scooby Doo rocks! ;-)

From your source - You should not let a sorceress live. (Exodus 22:17 NAB)

KJV: If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

NASB: If her father absolutely refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money equal to the dowry for virgins.

And yes, there are some inflamatory quotes in your source, evilbible.com, most of them had to do with war and most of them were taken out of context. Yes, I know where you are going with that next. However, you still have not given an example of where such behavior is condoned within the past 500 years. I'll give you one - Salem. Give me one within the past 300.

I never said the military doesn't have the stomach for war - of course they do. It's an all volunteer force. The American public does not and that was well beyond obvious.

6thGen, I want you to come up with a short list of all the "animal" countries of the world. Be sure to put China and Russia on that list. Take that list down to your local recruiting center, and tell them that they're going to need more people to invade and occupy the world.

...Or you can actually volunteer to fight, or offer your family to fight. I think the people that support the war in Iraq should actually support it. So far we have yet to be taxed extra to help pay for it. Yet every war usually is paid in increased taxes not borrowed money. So we have done nothing but talk and sacrifice our youth in our effort on the home front. I wonder how many who say we have no stomach for war, have the stomach to pay higher taxes to fund it or don't mind losing their child in the sand.

Hitler' Germany. A quote from Adolf--

Hitler was born and raised Catholic. "I am now as before a Catholic and will always remain so," Hitler himself told Gerhard Engel, one of his generals, in 1941. In Mein Kampf he says, "Therefore, I am convinced that I am acting as the agent of our Creator. By fighting off the Jews, I am doing the Lord's work." And at a Nazi Christmas celebration in 1926 Hitler declared: "Christ was the greatest early fighter in the battle against the world enemy, the Jews . . . The work that Christ started but could not finish, I--Adolf Hitler--will conclude."

Serbian/Bosnian killing fits under religiously divided parties.

I think you are wrong in thinking that Islam has been used anymore than Christianity by people to justify their actions. Both books and really any religious text can be twisted to mean almost anything.
Religion by nature is based on faith in something that can never be proved. When ones end point in any argument or conflict is the belief that your God justifies your action , then there is no way to reason any further. thus the inevitable rise of a fanatical segment in all religions from time to time. This is what you are seeing currently in Islam. This , however, does not make this religion any more inherently violent than others.

I put a disclaimer in there, and I think Americans need to be sick to their stomach to fight a war. I think the animals should be exposed for what they are. We continue to prove that we are weak and don't have the stomach for war.

I think this quote pretty much sums up what I take to be your position on a lot of issues.

Act out of emotion. Don?t think. Don?t see things within their context.

Just look at disturbing images and get mad, real mad and then outrage can take over and fuel/justify any response. Brilliant.

I cannot express how childish this whole thread is. How easy would it be for anyone to simply post graphic images from Abu Grahb? Or scenes from the Holocaust? Or lynchings in the American South? Or images of James Byrd?s mutilated body being dragged behind a car in Texas? Or scenes from the Oklahoma City bombing?

By your line of reasoning, every one of these examples would brand western civilization, and Americans, as animals ?and presumably justify any act of violence against us too. Congratulations, your thread has just justified 911.

In an earlier post I pointed out that you were helpful to these political debates, because you so clearly expose the stupid lines of thought that have gotten us into these messes in the first place, I see you are still providing this service.

If we aren't paying for the war through higher taxes, how are we paying for it?

Social Security surplus. This has been used in the governments general fund for years. So now we have a big Social Security shortage that had been addressed and rectified by previous presidents starting back with Reagan. And beyond that we just run a deficit in our national budget. We have had tax cuts not tax increases. If your taxes have gone up it's on the local level and only necessary then because of the federal tax cuts the current administration gave to the very wealthy.

Am I missing something? My tax bracket actually dropped under the Bush reign. As stated by someone else here, the cost will come down the road and Obama will be stuck with raising taxes to pay for the Bush fiasco.
You can be sure that 6th Gen and others will be *****in then about Dems , big government, cutting spending and the usual right wing small gov't junk.

No. You are on point and sadly 100% correct. Just like my Visa card, we will have to pay & it will hurt.

I think a good portion of the posters on here would fancy themselves progressive, liberal and open minded, accepting of homosexulality, atheism, drug use, fornication, maybe even adultery. While the religous right is not very tolerant of those acts, modern day christianity on the whole is mature enough to be largely accepting of persons with differing lifestyles, albeit with vehement disagreement on the morality of those acts. And even if Christianity were not accepting of those lifestyles and wished to harshly punish such, the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights either prevents such punishment and retribution in its entirety or properly restricts the bounds so that the punishment is not cruel and unusual. I don't think you will find the same safeguards in the middle east. In fact, I think most, if not all of the above mentioned, are capital offenses and will get you hung in the street. I'm not smart enough to know whether the Iraq thing was wrong, history will tell. But I do know that Bush had some tough decisions to make after 9/11. If the middle east and those from the middle east migrating to the U.S. don't wish to impose there belief system and style of government on the U.S. and its citizens, then I guess we're ok and disengaging from the area would be less dangerous. But the message looked a little different when the WTC came down and I can see how U.S. leaders may have thought that trying to get a handle on what was going on over there would be wise. Hard to fault that viewpoint.

Only the very wealthy got federal tax cuts? That doesn't sound fair, they should pay their fair share, right? And because they got tax cuts, I'll bet the total amount of federal tax dollars has dropped significantly, right?

Or maybe he'll cut spending. Government surpluses are a very bad thing.
