Bill Clinton coming Monday to Destin
July 30, 2007
By Florida Freedom Newspapers
For most of Monday, Harbor Docks restaurant owner Charles Morgan was giving odds of 70-30 that former President Bill Clinton would visit his establishment.
By that evening, the odds had gotten much better, as Clinton's advance team nailed down plans for an exclusive fund-raising event on heavily Republican turf in Northwest Florida.
"Somebody asked 'How did he know how to find y'all?' " Morgan said. "I said, 'Hey, if you're looking to find Democrats in this area, it's not too hard.' "
Only those who produce a check of $2,300 or more will be allowed inside Harbor Docks for the Hillary Clinton fund-raiser, said Toni Craig, who chairs Okaloosa County's Democratic Party. It is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday.
"I asked, 'Well, what about us poor Democrats?' " Craig said. "At the very least, I'll have my Clinton supporters out at the street."
Clinton's wife, U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., leads among Democratic presidential hopefuls in Florida, according to poll results released Friday by Mason-Dixon Polling and Research.
She won't be at Monday's event.
She had support from 31 percent of the state's Democrats, compared to 17 percent for her closest rival, U.S. Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois.
Florida's presidential primary is Jan. 29.
The former president last visited the area in the late 1990s for an Eglin Air Force Base memorial service honoring victims of the Khobar Towers terrorist bombing.
Morgan said Clinton's plan to visit has generated a lot of excitement in the area.
"The response has been very impressive," he said.
Secret Service agents were scheduled to arrive Thursday to begin preparations, Morgan said.
The restaurant owner did not know exactly what the protocol for such events was, and it was unclear whether media would be allowed to attend the event.
"I asked them how long he planned to speak, and they told me, 'He'll go as long as you've got a microphone in front of him,' " Morgan said. "I'm gonna trick him into playing the saxophone."
Morgan has traditionally been successful at luring big-name Democrats to Harbor Docks.
Bill McBride came to the restaurant in 2002, shortly before emerging victorious in a hard-fought Democratic primary and eventually losing to Jeb Bush in the governor's race.
Presidential hopeful and later vice presidential candidate John Edwards packed the restaurant during a 2003 campaign visit.

The idea that the man who ageed to watch a 20 year old female employee perform sex acts with one of his cigars now wants to be associated with the White House again is enough to make me vomit.
You can give all the excuses you want, but the man is pure sleaze....
...but, but, but she wanted to "earn the Presidential kneepads..."

Crap, I wasted my 1000th post on Bill Pimpton and Monica Whoreinsky!!!
Congrats on your 1000th!!!!!!
Well, after reading all your post I can now say that time heals some things....but not some-thing with a cigar.
I must be wearing blinders and not reading the right stuff. Hearing all the F words that Hil spits out and the way she treats "the servants" makes me really really sick.....again!
A strong honest leader for our country.....I know there must be ONE out there....but who?
I'mmm get-tttting sick again!
All of this makes me nervous....and sometimes makes me have to think about my own life....what am I doing? Do I really have any idea what's going on???? Do I want to know???? Right now I feel like I've let my ego rule my heart ( or the news media) with the political world....but then again, that's an easy way out.
I only really know about the restaurant world, children, and what makes the difference between a good key lime pie and a Grayt Key Lime Pie!There are the leaders and the followers. In my younger life I was such a leader, but I'm now enjoying following. So, SoWallers I'm following your post from now on very closely....as you all are so much more informed then me! Smiling joe gets straight to the heart....and makes me question what I think I know about. Thanks Sj
I shall go and ponder this some more from my bed!!!! And, the more I think about it they all get on my nerves....their voices, their accusations, condemnations, morals/no morals, religion or NOT.....Power can ruin the best of peeps. BUT, the desire for POWER is even scarier.......

You won't find me running out the door to get a seat at Harbor Docks. It's a very interesting story how Charles attracts such high ranking Democrats. I know the story, anyone want to take a shot?

With so much distraction from the Monica "bj" Lewinski thing, it seems that we as a nation, including the Democrats, forgot what Bill was up to when he was in office fighting off the Lewinski thing.
I am a person of peace, and while I don't agree that war is the answer of life, thinking about Clinton's speech from 1998 regarding Desert Fox, made me start thinking about the politics behind it all. (I'm neither Republican, nor Democrat, so don't start throwing labels like that on me.) If Bill (excuse me, Hillary) was so against Iraq back in 1998, I question why Hillary is anti-war now, especially if a "vote for Hil is a vote for Bill." What has changed in Iraq that made the Democrats turn against the war, which Bill was trying to fight back in 1988? I'll tell you my thoughts on that. I believe that the Democratic politicians (remember all of the ones who voted in favor of the war) have seen the potential to use the "failure" of the war in their favor by putting a political spin on it. The war is something that strikes us all on a personal emotional level, and the Democrats see this is a chance to say, "going to war was wrong." My question is, what did all of the Democrats in Clinton's cabinet know that the Democrats are keeping from us today? War has divided this country, but reading back through our recent history, it seems that both parties know that we should attack Iraq. Perhaps it is only politics which has divided this nation, not war itself.

Clinton said he made the decision to strike Wednesday with the unanimous agreement of his security advisors.
Timing was important, said the president, because without a strong inspection system in place, Iraq could rebuild its chemical, biological and nuclear programs in a matter of months, not years.
"If Saddam can cripple the weapons inspections system and get away with it, he would conclude the international community, led by the United States, has simply lost its will," said Clinton. "He would surmise that he has free rein to rebuild his arsenal of destruction."
Clinton also called Hussein a threat to his people and to the security of the world.

"The best way to end that threat once and for all is with a new Iraqi government -- a government ready to live in peace with its neighbors, a government that respects the rights of its people," Clinton said.
Such a change in Baghdad would take time and effort, Clinton said, adding that his administration would work with Iraqi opposition forces.
Clinton also addressed the ongoing impeachment crisis in the White House.
"Saddam Hussein and the other enemies of peace may have thought that the serious debate currently before the House of Representatives would distract Americans or weaken our resolve to face him down," he said.
"But once more, the United States has proven that although we are never eager to use force, when we must act in America's vital interests, we will do so."

I absolutely welcome Bill Clinton to Destin! And, hey, all you sanctimonious, hypocritical, Bubbas and Bubbettes..what are you all so "supremely" proud about for the last 7 year under W? List all of the wonderful achievements that W and his boss Cheney have done for our country and mankind? Let's just start the year 2000 all over again with Hill and Bill, OK.
P.S. Hillary swears--Good for her! And, if you believe "W" never swears, then keep telling your children the tooth fairy exist and that evolution is only a theory!`

hoonoone200, I don't think many people have been bragging about GW's accomplishments. Where did you get that idea? Bush is too deep in the war to gain popularity from the LEFT, and he is too far left, except for the war, to gain popularity from the GOP. If anyone likes GW, it is most likely due to their idea that he was the better of the very limited two choices.

Well since they don't like fighting in Iraq anymore, how about sending troops to Pakistan as Obama is now wanting to do!!!!

I heard that speech.
?Let me make this clear,? Obama said in a speech prepared for delivery at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. ?There are terrorists holed up in those mountains who murdered 3,000 Americans. They are plotting to strike again. It was a terrible mistake to fail to act when we had a chance to take out an al-Qaida leadership meeting in 2005. If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won?t act, we will.?...

As I recall, both sides of the aisle had the same bad info regarding Iraq. Once we got there and it became evident that the decision to invade was a colossal eff-up, why would anybody but suckups and eternal optimists want to continue their support for a war that had gone so badly? At least there are some people trying to put some bandaids on damage that will never be fully repaired.
