I have caught a few of the Olympic events on TV. I'd rather participate in sports than watch them, but I cannot help but to be impressed with some of these athletes. WOW! I watched a tremendous floor routine from some tiny girl, who won Gold. I watched some of the impressive swimming events, and missed some of them too. The women's marathon yesterday, I saw only parts, but was still impressed. The world's fastest man contest, the 100 meter sprint, was just crazy last night. The Jamaican (don't know his name) who won Gold, didn't start in the lead, but 3/4 of the way through the race, he hit 5th gear, and blew the others away, by 10 meters. Holy CoW! and he even pulled up (stopped sprinting) during those last ten meters. He set the world record, but could have blown it away. It was amazing. It was interesting to observe him looking like he was relaxing his muscles to stretch his legs further when he gained the lead at the end. Everyone looked so tight, yet when he loosened and relaxed his muscles, he blew the others away. He even had to beg his coach to let him enter that 100 meter race. His best race is the 200meter sprint. Anywoo, some of these games are very exciting to watch. I even saw about 3 minutes of Badmitton (sp?) yesterday and I didn't even know that people played that game. That is some crazy she-ite.

I know the 8 gold medals in swimming will overwhelmingly get much deserved attention, but what are some other events or athletes which or whom stand out to you?

Friday night in the preliminaries, 41-year-old Dara Torres had the commentators guessing when she came out before a race and went to talk to the judges instead of going to her block. Turns out that she was telling them and the other swimmers to delay the race because a younger swimmer had ripped her suit and needed a minute to change.

Maturity and sportsmanship; Most women would have only cared for their own issues.

I watched some of the gymnastics and the medal ceremony. Our girls got gold and silver and China got bronze. Watched a little synchronized diving too, pretty cool. Beach volleyball too and some of the swimming, all about Phelps! He really does swim like a fish!
I catch a few events here and there when I get tired of PBS.

Badminton is an olympic sport? :dunno: wow!

Dara Torres, not just because she went to the University of Florida, but because she did what she did at 41. She had a world record time yet lost the gold by 1/100 second.

She truly looks like a great competitor - I like how she is always smiling and hugging everyone.

I love all of the Equestrian events, because in my youth I used to compete and loved it! I wish I had stuck with it.

Anyway, last night though I was channel surfing and landed on Oxygen channel where they were showing the womens weightlifting, this Koren woman who was a pretty big girl, (it was strange to me seeing an Asian woman this size, because I always think of them as the little petite things) lifted 300 lbs like it was nothing!!! It just amazed me. She set a new world record.

All the athletes are amazing!!!!
