Yesterday we (The Shops of Grayton) discovered that we had been the victims of thieves....many items were stolen. Upon discover I phoned the WC Sheriff's Office and an officer was dispatched. Deputy RICK BROWN responded to the call and handled everything with utmost professionalism. He informed us that he had recently been reassigned to South Walton and had only been on the job here a week....and that for that entire week he had been working on cases such as ours.....lots of stuff getting stolen in South Walton...

I've lived here since the early 90's and I'm sad to know that I now have to worry about thieves. Maybe I've been naive, but I've never felt unsafe or exposed here...until now.

In the many years that I have done business I have never taken a bad check, had a credit card problem....and the one time that I had a small painting stolen....three days later it showed up at the front door steps of the Gallery.

So, be warned. Life is changing here. Careful what you leave outside unless you are willing to loose it.

Time to pack away our false sense of security and be a little more vigilant.

Hmmm SoWal Vigilantes. I can see it now. We are a bunch not to be reckoned with.

Lisa, I'm sorry that happened. Everyone needs to keep there eyes and ears open. If anyone hears or sees anything to help put this senseless theft to a halt, call Walton County Sheriffs Department and lets nip this in the bud.

Lisa, that stinks. Can you tell us what they stole so that we can keep an open eye for the items?

SJ: Thanks ;)

You know how the Shops are set up here...we have a patio area between the buildings....

Well off My (House of Art) patio they took two black heavy metal (wrought iron) chairs...one rocking chair and my market umbrella (that I might add was custom ordered to fit under the canopy...it's square and off white)...and one of those heavy cast iron umbrella stand and a couple of planters. They did me a favor and left my table and 6 more chairs...I guess there wasn't enough room to get it all in....

From The Studio : a brown metal outdoor table with two matching folding chairs, one of those outdoor fireplaces, a large HEAVY clay/ceramic type wine holder/cooler that could have also been used as a fountain...think huge large round bowl type thing with carvings on the outside....and a couple of other pieces....they were hit harder than I was.

From Modeo: Larry has a locked gate up between his two shops and they cut the lock off of one of the gates...he'd double locked them so they weren't able to get the other lock off....He's got them triple locked now.

It's ALL outside stuff......Deputy Brown said that they were going to be on the look out for the stuff....That's about all that can be done...

Insurance doesn't cover it since it was outside the building. My stuff was what we/friends/customers used when we hung out during receptions/parties/etc.

You know, you just feel violated :bang:

No, I've just lived with him for 12 years:funn:

Sounds like its time for security cameras, motion detector lights. Not a big expense compared to what you've lost or what you could lose.

And if you install cameras, hang them at eye level not from above looking down. This is the biggest mistake folks make. If criminals wear a baseball cap, you can't see their faces! So many convenience store robberies could have been solved had the cameras been installed correctly.

We got hit a Collabs several years ago, the woman backed her truck up to the building and just helped herself. However, the someone recognized all the 'new' stuff she had in her yard as being from Collabs and called police.

Hopefully someone on here will notice a neighbors new outdoor furnishings and do the same.

That sure rings a bell. The lady that stole all my stuff had it all out in her yard as Kenny says. I wonder if she is out of jail.....:dunno:

I'm sure some theif is afraid of a bunch of people who walk around the neighborhood for 5 minutes before running inside to post about something they just saw. :rotfl:

Is this the yard sale bandit?

We also had a few items stolen. Our Stella Artois sign at the entrance to the restaurant and our trash cart were stolen. The most important thing that was stolen was a 12 year old kids new bike. He just received it for his birthday 2 months ago. One of our employees (the child's stepdad) rode the bike to work over the weekend and left it overnight in a secluded, gated outdoor area thinking it would be fine. He came to work and realized it had been stolen. So disappointing.
