No wars are 'winnable'. Especially since many of us are aware of Vietnam. (Before I was born, all men in my family of age were in WW2. One uncle was killed; another wounded; another in a Veterans hospital til he died in 1976 - PTSD today). Also, after seeing some of the people who were involved in the insurrection plus some in the police departments, I don't think we could have done it any better than we did. I don't think we can trust ourselves anymore much less other countries so NO MORE WARS. Ellen

Looks like it’s over. Now comes the faux outrage that an eighteen month warning isn’t enough time for a person to decide if leaving a country that has been at war for as long as anyone can remember is in their best interest.

@redfisher, it sounds like there is a consensus. According to this board, this withdrawl was executed as best as could be expected and any deaths, fault or blame falls squarely on Trump and the people that were and are still there. Did you expect President Biden to handle this any different or better? If so, you should adjust your expectations accordingly. So sorry but time to move along....

Ah yes but sorry, I know you are intolerent of others but I was addressing redfisher about the topic specifically. I'm sorry if that wasn't clear but should be now. Even for.....you.

That's what IM's are for. Post it publicly and it's open to public fodder, is that clear enough for you?

The last soldier to leave Afghanistan.

Nearly 20 years after the first U.S. troops set foot on Afghanistan soil, Major Gen. Chris Donahue became the last military service member to depart the country Monday.

Donohue, with a Kabul airport hangar behind him, climbed aboard the final Air Force aircraft carrying U.S. forces to leave the country. The plane left just before a self-imposed U.S. deadline to evacuate: Afghanistan latest: Taliban leaders walk across airport runway to mark triumph; US finishes withdrawal
