Seems like a saw a news story on just that awhile back. Maybe it was when airlines started charging for checked bags, but I seem to remember that for many fliers, depending upon starting and ending points, shipping UPS was cheaper - and virtually guaranteed.

I looked into this quite a while back. You have to have a lot of certainty about where and when you're going for it to work out well. Even then, it takes an extra trip to the shipper a couple of days before you leave. Much better suited for the occasional well-planned vacation than for frequent and short duration business trips.

Any wonder that the UPS Store has about 8 flyers hung everywhere showing the cost of additional bags. If you plan ahead you can save money and ship UPS ground. They don't go through it and you can insure the bejesus out of it.

But if you insure it for more than $250 it becomes a high security item and so must go via air instead of truck so it gets $$$ to ship.

I agree it totally works for something like sending a bag to Sowal/a relative, not so much for a business trip.

Sigh, I remember when I used to fly home and the 2nd bag was just laundry items I didn't want to screw up.

I just shipped a laptop the other day and insured it for $1500.00, went ground no problem, if they choose to fly it fine.

I looks like they are only charging the 45 if the bag is too big to be stowed under the seat. I think this is pretty reasonable as my messenger bag usually only has my laptop and electronics I am afraid of loosing through regular checked luggage and fits under the seat no problem. I usually only fly to Vegas once a year for business and always dread it! :sosad:

Could this be the precursor to airlines eliminating their FF programs? Luckily my bag is small enough to fit under the seat, but where will my legs go?

Douglas, you have to the first American Male eva to dread going to Vegas......what up?

After visiting Vegas 8 or 9 times, there is only so much debauchery left in a man Lynnie! lol

...also it really is for business. They get a good 14 hour day out of us and by the time we are allowed free time, I am just too tired to enjoy it properly. Guess I am getting old! ;-)
