Just thought you all might be interested. My husband checked on the type of palm trees for his development that Alys Beach just put in on 30-A. They are $7,000 a piece. Alys Beach has 44 so that is over $300,000 (although I'm sure they worked a deal) just for palm trees. They are going all out. It will be beautiful when its finished in about 20 years  .

What's the difference between palm trees in CA and palm trees in FL?

Palm trees of any kind aren't native to the Panhandle, from what I am told. I'm not sure if they are even native to Miami. :dunno:

I think the Alys Beach palm trees are beautiful, though, and more majestic than ostentatious. Even with the gates, somehow it doesn't seem like too much to me. Probably because everything else is fairly "quiet." Except all those construction vehicles!!

I bet Christian is :bang: on Alys Beach's use of non-native plants.

maybe, the decision on the trees was kendall's and snooky's. there are a bunch of trees north of 30a at the east boundry of alys, that were on 30a before they widened the road, they were test growing them, and checking for straight growing trees, etc. kendall would be able to give the most accurate answer. she'll be at the concert on friday.

I should have added in my orig. post that the price is that high because they are very slow growing.
