We will stay downtown for a concert...it's so easy to walk to Phillips. We usually stay at the Westin Peachtree Plaza, which is just a few blocks away. Eating downtown is another issue, especially on the weekend. I, too, would recommend Howell Mill area. LOVE Figo...yum, yum. Will have to try Bone Garden (if it's better than Nuevo Laredo, then I am in!!) There is a Dantanna's in the CNN Center...they have decent food/bar.

So what is at Phillips that is bringing you to the ATL??
We went to Bone Garden today. What I'd say about it is that it is more authentic and creative that Nuevo Laredo. Son-in-law had a tongue taco (won't try that again). Hubby had the Sonora Hot Dog. The menu tells a story about this type of hot dog with pinto beans, onions, lots of different peppers, and that hot dog vendors in Los Angeles were banned from selling them. The description said, "No crying, please!" Well, it was so spicy that when son-in-law had a bite of the hot dog, his eyes teared up from the spices, and he was pretty uncomfortable for about five minutes.
I am fond of the cheese enchilada and the pulled-chicken tacos. And observing the very talented waitrons with body art such as a leopard-print haircut and full-body tattoos. Very creative.
The hot dog reminds me of the salsa at Los Dos Molinos in Phoenix when we went to the embarrassing national championship of Florida versus Nebraska. The salsa was so hot that a wave of heat rose from my back, up my spinal cord, and into my head. I really thought I was having a seizure. Now I know why they have large pitchers of ice water on each table. LOL.
The Bone Garden is owned by Michael Benoit of The Vortex and his wife. It is truly great food, but it is different than Nuevo Laredo. They both have a place in Atlanta!
I know about the Vortex connection. I agree that both restauarants are great choices.
I love Nuevo Laredo too - but I've begun to gravitate toward Uncle Julio's Casa Grande on Peachtree. Their signature Swirl is delicious!
No offense, but don't like that one. I'd rather have a bison burger at Ted's next door and a salad with house dressing (yummy ranch with awesome bacon).
Try the Bone Garden. Order a brisket burrito. If you can take the heat, add fire roasted jalapenos. Let me know what ya think!
Haven't tried that, but like I said, the Sonora hot dog made my son-in-law cry due to the heat.
