Minnie,

A family friend used to stay at the Marriot Marquis every time he and his family visited the U.S. He was connected with the Braves but chose to stay there and uses taxis.

It's been 10 years since I have been there, so I can't say how it is these days.

Have a lovely trip!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. The Glenn, Omni, Embassy Suites, Hampton, Westin, Hilton Garden Inn were all sold out.

Any thoughts on Marriot Marquis? I know its a little further but decided to just pay cab fare.

Do any of you take MARTA or thoughts on using it?

I am used to going to downtown Memphis, so I know about big city crime, and NOLA but in looking at downtown Atlanta on Google, it just seem so much more spread out.

Have read not so good reviews about the police situation also.

Nope, still trying to find one available. We don't go till Nov. so we still have time. Just appreciate those that have been sharing their advice.

Plus our group decided this week they want to try and stay downtown. I had booked in Sept. a place further out. So my search began again.

It has been YEARS since I stayed at the Marriott Marquis, but it was nice when I did. We recently stayed at the Westin and took Marta to a concert at Piedmont Park, then cabbed it home. Marta is fine on the way, but not where I want to be late night. On another note, sounds like there is a lot going on the weekend that you are coming. Marta may be jammed with tourists....safety in crowds.

That reminds me....we had a late night dinner at the Vortex on Peachtree (more Midtown)...the burgers and beer were yummy! ;-)

The original Vortex downtown was awesome! And, since they moved, I haven't been back - Little Five Vortex is great, though.

Marriott Marquis is still fabulous! I'd beware of the older boutique hotels that have been 'refurbished' - very thin walls.

What's the concert?
