I discovered Trish McEvoy products last year because the place I go for micro-peels sells it and I wanted to try it. I just love it all! I replaced ALL my makeup with it. It is a whole system, including a case to keep everything organized, tools (brushes, etc), and every kind of make up, etc. I didn't buy everything at once, it's as expensive as Lancome or most Dept store brands, but the tools and case add a lot more to the price.

The products are simple and clean, and give you a really natural, healthy look.

Of course, the micro-peels (which I just started last year) really help in skin appearance, and using Obagi facial products work wonders! When you are in your 40's you start trying this kind of crap! It's pricey, but worth it! especially if you are just interested in keeping your skin healthy - like I am - because I do not plan to have surgical stuff done later on when the wrinkles and bags really start to set it...
Oh, this is so interesting to read! I'm taking notes...:::scribble, scribble::: (Seriously.)
I also find it really interesting that you mention the, uh, age thing. I told Mr. Pod just the other day that ever since my birthday, I find myself fascinated all over again with makeup and beauty products as much as when I was young and had just discovered that stuff. It's kind of fun--like a way of looking at myself in a new light or something. (Please, not too harsh a light, though. Thanks.)

I've noticed very good results, and I get a lot of comments from friends about my skin - for the first time ever! I say if you are over 40, splurge a little if you can! Or cut back on something else, like massages and manicures - and get some good face products.

I would have to cut back on something like cable or the food bill!

okay, Ocean Lover... so, there are lots of other beauty products that are suppose to be excellent and affordable. anyone know what they are?

someone mentioned cetaphyl - great facial cleanser! the person who does my facials gave me "permission" to use this when I want to, because I've always used it. she says its good for your face.

I like Mary Kay products - the face make up is some of the best, if not the best that I've ever used. And I've heard that they have a new line of facial treatment products that are suppose to be really, really good. These are not inexpensive, but a good value.

heh

When you are over 50, you really pay attention. You want the most bang for your buck. You want something that actually DOES something.

That's why I go to that Cosmetic Cop website I posted before.

Ocean Lover, I went to the opthamologist because I had no idea it was an eyelash growing the wrong way! He himself used a magnifying glass to see it. I guess it was awfully little.

The lash tinting does last about 5 weeks, but as I said before, whatever they are using at Merle Norman isn't as good as what I was getting in Denver.

I'd be too freaked out to get permanent eyeliner or permanent anything.
Maybe it looks okay when you're 70-80 years old but I'd just as soon not take the risk.

One thing I have noticed since I have been here is that the humidity is much kinder to my skin. My eczema went away and there are no cracks in my hands like there usually would be. Everyone in Denver brags about the dryness, but there is a down side to that.

when we went to colorado last year, we noticed how dry it is ! my skin could not get enough lotion, my lips were chapped and my face was all dried out, and the main thing i noticed was my hair dried in like 10 mins - in the summer here in indiana and when we go to florida, it is nothing for my hair to take 2-3 hours to dry, and i have short hair !

Does it curl up as well? Mine does. I like it though. I've already decided that I could never do the snowbird routine to any place that didn't have a healthy dose of humidity. I hate it when the air's dry--my hair goes flat flat flat. :sosad:

Any good recs for shampoos and conditioners, anyone??

I know we talked about some in the thread about the Chi, but I can't remember them all. Those of us with thick, curly and/or coarse hair like Aveda Sap Moss shampoo and conditioner. I really love the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny line, and another good line is the Matrix line, I forget the exact name but it's something Smoothing, I think. Any of the salon lines that say they are smoothing are products that are very moisturizing.

:funn:My brother used to say that the thing he liked least about living in FL was drying off after getting out of the shower and still being wet. I am sure you know what he is talking about.
