love those Baby Einsteins. Bought the whole collection for my nephew years ago. The baby loves them now too. When my older nephew was 2 he wasn't speaking yet up to par yet, and after I got the videos, he said fish for the first time. I cried. Those are excellent, well thought out teaching aides. They use the primamry colors, lots of repetition and they discovered the use of classical music helps to absorb the information somehow.

I don't remember which one we were watching, but it kept showing bright colors and movement. I remember studies from years ago saying that classical music helped absorb information and started when I was in college always playing it in the background when I studied. I guess it worked....I graduated. :D

I can't play music in the background anymore because I'll end up analyzing it. Makes me crazy.

Those are creepy! My friends' babies can be in a full-on meltdown, and they'll put Baby Einstein in and the kids just go into a trance...

people and kids do love the baby einstein stuff, but spidey was never impressed, and neither was I.

Spidey just discovered that he can change the language setting on DVD movies. last night he watched about 45 minutes of Ice Age, The Meltdown, in French.

I'll send him some of the DVDs my brother brought me from China!

When you have had to deal with an autistic child in your immediate family and you find a learning tool that aides in teaching communication, social and speaking skills that obviously has great benefits, that is a notch on the belt to anyone who has had to deal with this. I'll take Sesame Street and Baby Einsteins any day over Boobahs, and like Shelly said, a ball, some blocks and other simple toys participating with a child can foster lots of creativity and other skill sets.

My brother taught himself to read with Sesame Street when he was 3. Street signs, newspapers, whatever he wanted. (My parents take no credit for it. They both worked full-time, and my grandmother, who kept my brother, could barely read herself.) When he was 6, he taught me to read...that was a grayt show...

Mangy - you are absolutely right. Telletubbies and Boobah are appreciated by really young babies/toddlers. But I think most kids would prefer something with actual substance like Sesame Street.

Yes, I agree with Shelly - turn it off and kids can really play and explore and learn.

I  the Teletubbies. The Teletubbies were a grayt distraction tool for a pediatric nurse when I worked in peds. I have a feeling I would like boobahs too. I just played the video, and Hubba perked up and said, 'What's that noise?" :D

I'm not going to lie. I laughed soooo hard when I saw this, literally rolled around the floor and it was contagious. The last time I laughed that hard was with Corky. If all the Boobahs does in a situation like in a hospital setting is make people laugh, then it accomplished something.
