Highly processed salt to disguise the low nutrient content and add flavor to processed food = bad.

Salt that is added to dishes during cooking because of how it works with other flavors or its properties = good.

We gave up (the yucky) salt years ago because of health concerns (not that we ever used much of it), then brought it back (kosher salt) when Scooterbro became a chef.

Like so many other things, the better quality stuff in moderation is good for you. The cheap processed stuff in excess is bad.

Well, y'all have made me feel better. Mangy, it just so happens that Mr. DD went and bought a whole bunch of the pink stuff not long ago, and I typically use Kosher when I'm cooking. I'll just have to watch the little packages when I'm eating those onion rings at Sonic.

In conjunction with water it is actually essential for the regulation of your blood pressure.
Hmmm. So does this mean that everyone on the planet without access to this pink salt cannot regulate their blood pressure?

Love salt, and don't have salt-sensitive blood pressure. During the summer, if I'm out and about and sweaty from the humisery, there are times I feel like I could eat half a deer lick.
. I must remember this one!

I did not know this.

Mangy: ..Wow, TY! .... but I'm sure I didn't absorb all that salt info.

I'm a fan of salt but not to any extreme.

The trapped miners were given doses of salt to feed their brains in case they passed out in the cage on the way out.

= muy bueno!

Why do we need salt?

It is the sodium (ions) present in salt that the body requires in order to perform a variety of essential functions. Salt helps maintain the fluid in our blood cells and is used to transmit information in our nerves and muscles. It is also used in the uptake of certain nutrients from our small intestines. The body cannot make salt and so we are reliant on food to ensure that we get the required intake.

My favorite salt is what's left at the bottom of a bag of Mr. Salty pretzels. Something about the combo of salt crystals and pretzel dust is very tasty. If that were a packaged product I would buy it.

I'm not a big fan of pretzels, but I love the dust at the bottom of the Saltine cracker bags... And just Saltines in general...

MMMMmmmmmmm!

I love salt and mainly stick to sea salt. However because of a medical condition my husband's doctor put him on a diet that is very restricted on salt. He's supposed to stay at 1,000 mg. a day or less. We've had to make a lot of adjustments. I wonder if we'll ever be able to go out for a meal again. Does anyone know of a restaurant or restaurants with anything low salt on the menu?
