There are just so, so may ways to interpret Scipture. Happy Easter Winnie!

The one I like is the parable of the talents, Matthew, Chapter 25, Verses 14-30. You may know it.

It's the one where the master gave 5 talents to one servant, 2 to another and 1 to a third - "to each according to his ability." When the master returned and asked the servants to account for his money, the first two had invested and doubled the talents they were given. The third had buried his talent so still only had the one. The master was ticked at this foolishness and took that single talent from him and gave it to the servant with 10 talents. Not to the servant with 4 talents, but to the servant with 10.
Interpret how you will! :D

Happy Easter!

I wonder how that parable would be interpreted if the servants who invested got talked into some crapola mutual fund that lost 60% of its value in just a few weeks. The "foolish" servant, the one who stayed in cash, could buy up the shares from the other guys for pennies on the talent.

Anyone currently biatching want to trade paying taxes for being dependent on a gov't check or charity to survive? Just because we don't need one of those programs right now, doesn't mean we someday won't.

Yes, people CAN plan for their own retirement - but not everyone does, so I see nothing wrong w/ having everyone automatically pay into the system. Lately we've seen a lot of people who independently planned for their retirement (individually or through their work) taking a major hit and finding that a government retirement plan isn't the worst thing ever.

Personally, I wish I paid 3X or 4X the amount of taxes I currently pay. In other words, I'd be giddy to be in a taxes bracket that required me to remunerate huge percentages of my income to the government.

I wish I received 1/3rd to 1/4th of the government services for which I'm currently paying.

Really?
You want a WIC voucher to help feed your infant child?
You want access to a public school for your children even though you sleep in your car?
You TRULY want be to unemployed so you can collect benefits?
You want to be disabled to that point that you can't work again?
Do you really want these things, or are you just running your yap?

I hope I never have to utilize these social services, but I'm that they are there. Not there for me, but because I know that America is a better place because we have made a commitment to take of people who truly can't take care of themselves. Sure, there are those that game the system. There are folks that accept welfare when they don't truly qualify, or they fake an injury so they can collect worker's comp, or they trade with inside info. Each one of these transgressions, curiously enough, are with my money. I'm trying to figure out which of these three actions repulses me the most...tough call.
Happy Easter!

Right here!
Wouldn't help you....Medicaid doesn't cover penile enhancement, I know because I checked.

I believe that was a personal attack. People have been getting banned for that, you might want to be careful. Kurt, care to comment?

Of course not. I don't believe the federal government should provide sucha safety net, as they are much less efficient than local government, much less the private sector. I wasn't referencing specific programs. I meant I wish I received 1/4th of a benefit of federal programs and entitlements relative to my cost. Happy Easter.

The self deprecating end portion includes me in with 6thGen thus making it harmless...ish. If I were you, I would've taken more issue with my comment above questioning reading comprehension which I must question again here. :dunno:
ETA: Plus to be "personal" I would have to know something about the "subject" in question and 6thGen can readily assert that I do not know a thing!! Happy Easter too
