Yikes, seems like exploitation to me.

I can't imagine anyone younger than say 13 actually being able to talk coherently about what is going on, and a 13-18 year old may understand some of it but certainly not all.

I agree, scooty, I hate all the drama and look-at-me nonsense I see around me (not everywhere, but certainly more than enough). This "story idea" just feeds into that.

I have talked to my kids about the economy only because I want them to understand that many families are going through a very tough time and it's a good idea to be sensitive to others. In addition we are talking more amongst ourselves about budgeting and smart choices. Emphasis on "amongst ourselves." Can't imagine trotting a child out to CBS.

When I already have disdain for the media, this happens. The parents are enabling the children making the videos and uploading to CBS. The parents are exploiting their children! And, the producers are spearheading this. I think it's egregious and am probably going to write one of my letters!

I do remember my Mother (at Family Conference) telling us that times were tough and we had to cut back. We went outside and played.....well, and my big brothers hi-jacked the ice cream truck, which to this day is hysterical! Afterall, times were tough under the Carter Admin.

Where did Aggieb's post go?? :dunno: I hate it when posts just disappear for no reason or are placed out of order than original.

Anyhoo...my 2.5 year old already gets on my computer and pretends to type and tells me she has to check her email. :rotfl:

Good luck Aggieb!

by the time i have children there would be no possible way i could follow through with that, but i would like to. even now, i couldn't. i do understand it is all about parenting. there would be no way they could develop with their peers and grow without the internet. there's just no way around it, and that's sad. imo.

Andy, I am curious. What are you basing this statement on? Who are "they"? I'm not trying to pick a fight. I am just wanting some clarification of your comment.
My education and experiences while attaining my Master's degree at the age of 51. I had at least two professors during my program that were consistently trying to "lead" their students into a liberal camp. I have no problem with that as long as it is not done in a classroom setting where students may perceive their grade will be enhanced if they follow their professor's lead whether it be true or not. I know you understand where I come from politically and so when such attempts occurred, I would challenge the professor. I do feel while what I state was their intent, they did not use it as a club regarding grades. I got an A from both of them.

What I think is sad is that kids don't get to play on their own the way I did growing up. It seems like every activity is rigidly scheduled, totally organized, and involves the parents. At times kids need a little less structure in their playtime.

Kids still enjoy creative games and playing - they don't need the constant tv or video games. I was a popular babysitter because I turned off the tv and actually played with them and took them outside all day. The only time we might watch TV was when it was raining all day or nighttime.

Later, I worked at a summer camp where there was no tv, radio, computer, phones, etc. for the entire 3 weeks. If parents wanted to email their kids, they had to send it to a special address and it would be printed by the office staff and given to them at mail call. They were so busy having fun, they didn't miss them.

My aunt won the "no TV at family functions" battle w/ her step-daughter - by proving that the grandkids had more fun at thanksgiving making things w/ toothpicks, gourds, and cranberries than with video games or a DVD.

your comments remind me of September 11th...I'm a teacher and the quandry became what do we tell our students, how do we tell them, how much do we tell them? Our school has students in grades 1-8...what would you have done?
