Eight feet is really pretty high unless your next door neighbor is two story. The bamboo sounds like it would need varnishing/sealing too much to be real practical.

I have acid stained floors in my showroom and my home. I don't mind them at the showroom as it is easy to clean and I always have shoes on.

I thought I would like them in my home, but alas I do not. They are too cold for bare feet and so we ended up with area rugs everywhere. Fortunate for me, I'm in a long term rental and so will be able to change my floors this fall.

Should you decide to go with the stained concrete, let your builder know upfront as you need to take special care not to leave any marks on the floor from things like grease that will embed in the concrete and comes back through the stain. Feel free to come by my showroom and I'll show you what I mean. The stain folks did their best to hide the marks, but they remain visible.

I was just reading about how important it is to protect them during the building phase. My friend here in LA has concrete floors BUT her color is integrated - troweled into the concrete when slab is poured and then hers is stamped. She loves it - but I can not find anyone in 32459 that does that - they all seem to do acid stained.

Perhaps I will start a new thread and someone will see it and tell me that is their specialty.

Thanks for the tip!

The FAQ's say that the varnishing isn't necessary unless I wouldn't like the naturalized look. - I'll have to keep reading about it.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 8 ft fence is because even though the neighbors are 1 story - their windows are way up higher than most. The current 8 ft fence is on the house that is on the other side of our house so we have the same window situation on our side. I want to make a sanctuary on my side yard - that's why I would prefer not to have to see too much of the other house - specially windows.. Perhaps I am just dreaming.

Thanks for your input.

Portland Deco is who did my floors. I am looking at their business card and it seems like maybe they do what you're looking for. They have a website at www.portland-deco.com and they are out of Ft Walton Beach.
I had very good luck with them.

Hey Gidget,

That is a lovely lot. I'm not a stalker, just remembered you said they cleared it and the subdivision. Happened to drive by.

At any rate I would go with Cedar. You are right up against the road and you will get noise. It gets louder in the winter as the cold dry air carries the sound better and faster.

I would also recommend doing the fence in an overlapping manner. Once board on the inside, one board on the outside covering the gap. If you go with a board followed by another board it will shrink, leave gaps, and no more gardening in the nude.

You could go with an Ipe wood, it will never rot, be eaten, or need treating of anykind. Of course you'll also have the most expensive fence on 30A.

Vinyl might be easy short term maintenance, but wait for the first hurricane. I'm sure the folks over at Redfish will call you if you mark the sections with your phone number. :D

Cypress!!! Its a local hardwood that is naturally water prone to standup against water more than any other local woods. Go natural! Reclaimed cypress would be the best but good luck finding it. I tore a old barn down once for 500 bucks and got enough to finish the inside of a large house. I personally like the old pecky cypress on the inside vs. Outside of the home.
