If you are looking at Sowal as a source of hard news, you may be looking in the wrong place. It is notorious for rumor and opinion, often as misinformed as informed. And that's the way most of us view it. I know there is hardly a newspaper or television station that is filling the void, but please don't count on an odd-ball bunch of posters filling the bill.

I think the issue is how people take sides before knowing the story. Personally I couldn't care less about chairs or weddings on the beach because I rarely set foot on it. I like to stand on a walkover, leaning on the railing with a beer in my hand. Problem is with those tilted railings, you can't set your beer down. That's a much more serious issue than people who can' find a place to lay out on 50 miles of white sand without their delicate sensibilities being hurt and their life being permanently altered by seeing something they'd rather not. That being said, my feeling on beach chairs is it's OK to move them, just don't get caught. If you get caught, pretend to be sorry, and don't make an issue of it. As for weddings, if one of your photos gets bombed, don't use that photo. Think about how much worse it is in the drive-thru weddings in Vegas, and yet no one ever complains about photo bombing. You've got some homeless guy bumming a cigarette while urinating on your car. No problem, it stays in Vegas. When did we as Americans forget how to deal with things?

I just think its funny that now the media has reported the story and it almost matches the vendors story identically, and ironically none of the nay sayers are here to say, wow, I was wrong, Im sorry. They stand quiet as usual.
My profile name is NewPoster, and this is my first post with this user name. However I have lived here 8 years and I am extremely familiar with how the posters on here work. They attack with their opinion and when they are wrong you don't see or hear out of them. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Sounds just like people in real life. Oh wait - this is real life. Including people like you who have a holier than thou opinion of themselves and are always pointing fingers.

Nice first post. Can't wait for the second.

As for the vendor, I'm sure the situation could have been avoided with a little courtesy and respect for the party. Should they have moved stuff? Probably not. But I have seen at least one vendor on Grayton Beach act like an Ahole when people touch his stuff. There's no reason for that. Our vendors should always have a smile on their face and be thankful we allow them to operate and make a living on OUR beaches.

I agree. Why do some locals who live in a vacation destination get so pissed when they see an overcrowded beach during the Summer time? It's like getting pissed because the stores are crowded while you Christmas shop. Some act as if every occupied square foot of sand is the exact spot they were going to lay on. My wife and I frequently park along the boardwalk on Scenic 98 and enjoy standing at the railing watching the throngs of families having a blast playing on the beach. I rarely lay on the sand but when guests come into town and want to go the beach we are always able to find a spot to set up. Instead of looking towards the beach and being upset by the temporary crowds turn around and look at the root of the problem.

There should be peace among these two groups. Seeing as people attending weddings like to sit, I think the future is in the merger of wedding planners and chair vendors.

I believe beach chairs and umbrellas are people just like corporations. They should be allowed to marry any other beach item of their choosing be it a cooler, surf board, beach ball or even a root. Stay away from a Yeti, they are full of themselves.
