As for fun and 'fordable options for decorating? A neighbor of mine had once inherited a jewelry box full of costume jewelry and used it sporadically throughout the branches. Dangled beads and bracelets here and there and used clip on earrings on the tips. Once the tree lights were turned on BLING BLING!! It gave an antique classic victorian look to the tree. She did it quite well, with much taste. I'm sure it could have come out quite trashy too if overdone.
