I like this idea! I may use it.

Please do, I don't charge for my ideas, ... yet. If they like it, you will know what to get them next year too. :D

My mother and mother-in-law certainly do not need more things to find a place for. Lately, we have given them gift certificates for massages and manicures/pedicures. They love this. It's not that they can't afford it on their own, but their generation just did not spend money for such "frivolous" things. The massages are therapeutic for arthritis and pedicures are very important for the overall health of many aging people.

In reverse, my mother constantly asks what she can give me for special occasions. My husband and I are minimalists. Last year, I asked her to fill out a kind of self interview book called "My Story," which I mailed to her. She relucantly did this (doesn't like to talk about herself) and I learned so many things about her childhood and her feelings that I would never have known otherwise. It explained a lot about the past, too. I treasure this book. You can find it through Amazon or any other big book purveyor.

My mother in law likes to go out to the movies (she drags my father in law along) LOL. I have given her movie money so she can go to all the latest movies and a gift certificate to a really nice restaurant. (She doesn't like to spend too much money either, even though she has it) Instant Date Night!!

Donna, this book is a wonderful idea. Since I work with the elderly, I cannot tell you how many times I hear families say they wish they had asked this or that of the person about their youth, etc. By the time they come to me, sometimes it's hard to get a lot out of them..
But, the upside is sometimes their long term memories are really good and they can tell some wonderful stories. I just admitted a lady who was a professional race car driver. And I once had a lady who was the first female balck jack dealer in Vegas. She had tons of photos with her and Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, etc. She was wonderful..
Sorry....I digress...great idea!

The "My Story" book sounds like a great idea. I'll pass that unique idea on to some friends.
