My mother in law likes to go out to the movies (she drags my father in law along) LOL. I have given her movie money so she can go to all the latest movies and a gift certificate to a really nice restaurant. (She doesn't like to spend too much money either, even though she has it) Instant Date Night!!
Great idea!!

"Last year, I asked her to fill out a kind of self interview book called "My Story," which I mailed to her. She relucantly did this (doesn't like to talk about herself) and I learned so many things about her childhood and her feelings that I would never have known otherwise. It explained a lot about the past, too. I treasure this book. You can find it through Amazon or any other big book purveyor."

I LOVE this idea. I want to do this for my parents and both in-laws. However, I can't find this on Amazon. Please PM me with instructions. Thanks.

So many people asked for this book and I confess that I incorrectly named its title as "MY Story." The correct title is "Your Story: A Guided Interview Through Your Personal & Family History." It is available through Amazon, as I just checked on their Web site. The interview in the book is simple but thought provoking and its format is like a friendly little workbook. Of all the gifts my mother has given through the years, this is the one I treasure most.

O.K., now that Halloween is over, time to move on...

I need suggestions on what to give my in-laws. You know, they always say they never want anything, never need anything (they're not wealthy people either). And no, we're not gonna spend lots of $$$ and send them on a cruise. Just a normal gift. We did the fruit of the month last year (they loved that gift, seriously!!). Got them a computer the year before. Help!! I'm sure there are lots of you with the same delimma!!!

Your in-laws sound just like my parents. They have everything they need and don't like it if you "clutter" their house up with more stuff that you know they'll eventually give back to you. :bang:

What a bunch of great ideas you have already! Here's mine. How about tickets to something they'd like to see, especially if you buy them better seats than they'd have bought for themselves? There's the theatre, or symphony, ballet, whatever they have an interest in.

Try making them a scrapbook of the family over the years. I did this as a graduation gift and it was a huge hit. It is really easy. The only problem is deciding which photos to use. Have a friend help you sort after you make the first round of choices.

Too funny. One Christmas, I made birdhouses for everyone. I never said that each gift I make is different -- maybe different from the prior year. :funn:
