Haven't thought about family yet. The office will get a flock or two of chicks from Heifer International instead of getting people a bunch of crap from Target that they didn't ask for and probably wouldn't use.
Kids just love the idea of giving animals for Christmas! Heifer International will send a very nice card to announce your gift. Start a tradition of charity in your family-- Feels great!

I have never been a fan of obligatory gift giving for any occasion. I give gifts whenever I feel like it and most of the gifts I have given in the past ten years are things which I have made. Long ago, I came to the conclusion that people don't need more useless crap, so if I do buy someone a gift, I make sure it is disposable or edible, like flowers, food or wine.

Don't forget your Postman also. Ours still walk from house to house and in Memphis that is sometimes a dangerous job due to idiots that try to rob them and very vicious dogs that run lose.

Ours is a great guy that cares about the people on his route and helps keep an eye on everyone and their homes.

Also at Christmas similar to what SWGB suggested if dining out, if any local Police officers are dining, I will offer to pay for their meal.

Officers are defnitely under paid and under appreciated.

I also make homemade candy or cookies and take to our local fire station.

Minnie, what about the men who take away your garbage? Think about all of our smelly crap they have to experience.

I agree.

We are definitely scaling back this year. Just trying to get all of the family together is proving difficult. We agreed to no gifts for the big people. The kids will get a few things with focus on board games, art supplies, books and things like that.

I spent one Christmas with a friend's family, walked in and the entire room was filled with gifts which I figured had to be for a million family members that would come later but NOOOO, they were all for the 5 people in the room. It turns out every item came from a yard sale (except the 12 pack from Cousin Bob). The whole night was hysterical.
My brother and sister and I are now one the prowl for great yardsales.
