Maybe this doesn't seem odd to locals or folks native to small towns. But as a transplant I find it interesting that the local NBC affiliate's Sunday morning lineup consists of The Living Word presented by the Springfield Community Church followed by Meet the Press and then a full mass (not sure who produces this).

I personally am unoffended by it especially since my understanding is that both represent paid programming. On a side note, I find the Springfield Church program very entertaining. But I digress.

I can't help but wonder. What would happen if a Muslim service pooled resources together and bought airtime and presented a prayer service? Would the station allow it and take their money? Would folks find it odd or be offended?

I would only find it offensive if i was forced to watch. Thankfully i have enough other channels to turn to and this is a free country and i can watch whatever i want.

It's less about them spreading the message and more about using it as an advertising medium to get more paying butts in the pews.

As much as ya'll don't like church or the things of God, it seems to be in the top 5 subjects discussed on sowal and the people that are against it are the ones starting the threads on it. I would think there was a possibility that you might be truly searching for the truth, but that doesn't seem to be the case cause when truth is presented, dust flies. Moot subject when one isn't actually interested in an answer, but a so-called debate minus the solution. Do as you like, just making an observation. While I am at it, just to clear up any miscommunication, none of my former apologies were for what I said, I fully mean what I say, they were for the miscommunication of intent. My intentions are not to harm someone intentionally, but if you don't want to hear the truth, don't ask me.

Jesus said that He was the way, the truth, and the life, that no man comes to the Father except through Him. I didn't write the book, nor do I expect you to believe it.
The truth is the written word that God gave to us so that we could have an incredible life- not a list of do this don't do that religious strangleholds. People don't seem to be getting where God is coming from. If you are imprisoned in any way in your life- don't blame God- He already provided a way out. It's up to you now- you are responsible for your own decisions.

By the way, there are already mosques all over America, so Muslim t.v. is not out of the question. They obviously have other uses for their money since I personally have not seen any muslim services on t.v. Maybe more in the future. My take on it is I might watch out of curiosity, but I'm guessing it would probably bore me.

SWGB is making me laugh again. I just read one of his posts on this thread and he mentioned paying butts in pews- thats funny. God doesn't need your money, by the way, but you put money where your heart is

Oh and to answer your question Geo about do I believe it's detrimental to remove the things of God from our government and would I mind sayings from other belief systems being promoted, I will answer both at the same time. If there are principles of truth that generate goodwill and promote life from any source then I say, Let it be.

Geo - I've always seen Church TV - anywhere I've lived, including Birmingham and other smaller cities. I don't care to watch them, but I have tuned in a time or two, or accidently, just for the entertainment/shock factor. Remember Ernest Angely? Tammy and Jim? oh my goodness - those were indeed bizarre shows. the lives and stories behind the scenes were even more bizarre.

On the other hand, Mass is offered on TV everywhere. Not sure why because I'm pretty sure its a sin to physically miss mass - unless you are deathly ill or on vacation (I'm a big sinner). But, maybe its just for those Catholics who like to watch a mass on TV in addition. You can find mass on tv every day in some places. I do not think the mass on tv is intended to save you, heal you or take your money. well, maybe they want your money - I've never really watched mass on TV except midnight mass from St Peter's on Christmas Eve.

Sunday morning church on TV - its been around forever. Good for those who like to tune in with their coffee in their PJs and not have to leave the house. I reckon.

BH - I'm sorry but I don't follow you. this entire post seems to make a lot of assertions and assumptions about people on this message board and their beliefs. From what I know about our fellow members around here, most are very complex in their beliefs and thoughts about God, the universe, the planet and overall spirituality.

BH, despite what you say- most of my posts in the political forum seek to expose the truth.

I grew up in a tv market where the church congregation supplied a number of Sunday morning services to the broadcast channels, and the local atheist group, such as they were, scraped together enough money to get 'American atheist' to air on the local cable public access channel, and no one thought that show was something to fuss about.
