Is it 30A or 30 A or 30-A? I understand why the owner of Caf? Thirty-A added a hyphen because if it were written in all caps, it would be CAF? THIRTYA (thirt ya?). But their website name doesn't have a hyphen because Unix wouldn't like that. (That's another story -- Unix should not have ever been trademarked in all caps because it's not an acronym).

I just happened to look at a really old road map in hubby's car as I was sitting in the passenger seat on the way back from having my hair done today. It calls the part of Florida Highway 30 near Apalachicola "30C"????? Then I googled and found that there is a Florida Highway 30H.

I'm confused. I was already confused about Santa Rosa Beach not being in Santa Rosa County, and Fort Walton Beach not being in Walton County, and Seacrest and Rosemary being in Panama City Beach which is in a different county.

I prefer 30-A. And someone earlier confirmed what I believe about another 30-A in Franklin County. What the heck is UNIX? Also, Lake Powell is really Phillip's Inlet. And why are there so damn many towns called Jackson, Columbus, and Madison in every fricking state in the union?

I use all of them, depending on mood.

Seacrest and Rosemary are not IN another county, that is just their postal zip code - it's really dumb.

Dunelaker can explain it all to you in great detail, but basically there used to be a lot fewer counties so it used to make MUCH more sense. Fort (originally Camp) Walton did used to be in Walton County.

Most of the area used to be named Santa Rosa too, after Saint Rosa de Viterbo because of the strong Spanish presence - Okaloosa Island used to be Santa Rosa Island, Santa Rosa Sound still connects Pensacola Bay to Choctawhatchee Bay etc.

Unix (or some variant) is the operating system preferred by computer science people. Definitely not Windows.

Okay, now I am more confused.

Actually, I think 32461 IS Walton County, ever since they opened the branch PO in Rosemary, maybe. The Rosemary PO is serviced from the SRB main PO, not from the PCB PO. There are still some old zip code guides that show 32461 as PCB, but I think they are in error. I should ask Karen the next time I'm in there, just to clear it up for sure.

Well, that solves that: it's either county road 30A, scenic highway 30A, scenic corridor 30A, 30Ahh, 30 eh?, 30-A, East 30a, West 30A, or it could be 15+15A, 40-10A, or Pretty Pretty30-A... I'm glad we got that cleared up...:D:wave:

Maybe that's why someone came up with the idea of calling it "The Beach" to avoid the confusion? Major fail. :rotfl:

I think that someone should pay Kurt a kajillion dollars for his idea, SoWal. No confusion there.

Except what is the line of demarcation between SoWal and NoWal? And then is there a WeWal and an EaWal?

Still pay Kurt a kajillion dollars for the SoWal idea.

the "A" stands for alternate, as in alternate route. It means different things to people in different areas. While the road is a county road (CR), the "scenic highway" designation is higher and usually the higher designation holds in the name, so you can drop the CR, even though it is county maintained. With the "scenic highway" designation, state funds are opened up to fund things such as sidewalks, multiuse paths, etc.
