From a neighbor:

Notice of Public Access #25 Abandonment
Please attend the Planning board hearing on February 13, 2014 mat 5 PM to voice your opposition to abandoning this Public Beach access point for the benefit of the two adjacent homeowner's. This is a neighborhood beach access point.

I thought this was in reference to giving away the right of way in relation to the side of the road and the bike path. Which is troubling enough since the bike path should be on the south side!!!

Is the county actually giving away the beach access???

For the benefit of the two adjacent homeowners? How about keeping it open for the benefit of the entire damn community!

It'd be more of use if the path were just moved to the south side of 30A, but regardless this shouldn't be allowed.

The people who own and/or live near that intersection must be furious. I see so many people on the bike path on 395 heading to this beach access. This is just wrong!

Yes, the bike path needs to be moved to the south side of 30A at that intersection. Yes, if I owned property there, I wouldn't like it. But it's just the safe thing to do.

Wow- that access is used by so many. Maybe that is the problem to the adjacent homeowners? Too many people walking in between their homes? Whatever.

Not to contradict anyone if someone has given you information that abandonment of a beach access is being considered. However, after I saw this I asked a county planner about it earlier tonight. He said the CR-395/30A abandonment coming before the planning commission this Thursday is related to the land exchange for the turn lane project and that it does not involve the beach access. He did not know of any plans to consider abandoning a beach access.

Well, that's better re the beach access.

Like I've advocated, the bike path still needs to be moved south of 30A at that intersection. If I were a property owner there, I would not like it. But my five-year-old brother was killed by a driver. Adults and kids roll through that intersection on bicycles like it's in their safe subdivision in the ATL. But that's not how people roll through there. There are people in a hurry to go to/from Publix or Seaside or wherever, construction workers who are trying to get to/from work just to make a living and deadlines, etc.

No one wants to see a child run over and look like hamburger meat as my brother did.

Thanks, miznotebook, for the info.

I went by that beach access a few days ago and I swear that is exactly what that sign said, that the access was being abandoned. I will check this out and report back but when I saw the sign and read it, I immediately remembered this thread and figured it was true.
