My daughter has a lot of Crate and Barrel at her place in Atlanta, among them a white slipcovered sofa, a lounge chair, a dining room table, and her bedroom furniture. The sofa is very comfortable and well made, and the other pieces are nice as well, in particular, the dining room table.

BTW she also has a lot of pieces from Pottery Barn, my favorite being a very substantial coffee table that was marked down from $999 to $599 because it had a few small scratches (I don't know why it mattered - it was meant to be a distressed piece). I would say that the PB pieces are slightly better than the Crate & Barrel ones in general except that the sofa and dining table are comparable to PB.

BTW not wild about Ballard. Too country French for my taste.

She and her boyfriend are big people (she's 6'2" and he's 6'5"), and it has held up well since it was purchased when she started Georgia Tech in August 2004.

I have two pieces of Crate and Barrel furniture, and I was disappointed by both. The first I ordered from the catalog -- a media console -- and the finish was not anything like I expected, the shipping was pretty expensive, and I had to assemble it. By the time I got it assembled and didn't like it, taking it apart and shipping it back seemed like more trouble than it was worth. I would recommend Room and Board -- they have quality furniture with a great aesthetic, and their delivery service is excellent.
Yes, you're right. The very KD furniture is of lower quality than what you see in the retail stores.

BTW unfortunately The Storehouse no longer exists. We have bought random pieces there since the 70's. In 2004 I bought a fabulous entertainment center for our daughter's place in Atlanta there, as well as two very substantial club chairs for the beach house last year because our rental guests destroyed the ones we bought from Lovelace. They were just under $1000 each and very comfortable - when you have a 6'8" husband, you need oversized furniture.
