It snowed here Friday and I had to go out and clear the driveways twice but since then, just bitter cold. We are supposed to get blasted tomorrow afternoon and Wednesday.

Crazy:
  • It's snowing now!
  • Georgia Tech has been closed two days in a row. When was the last time that happened?:dunno:
  • A meteorologist on an Atlanta TV station predicts that the public schools there will be closed for two more days due to the temps being too low for the ice to melt.
  • Interstate highways in Atlanta are closed in places.
  • People are stuck at the ATL airport, including one woman whose car is parked at the airport but she can't get out of the parking garage due to the ice.
  • People are stranded at the Greyhound station which is out of food.
  • You can actually skate on Peachtree. Peachtree St. Ice Rink in Midtown on Vimeo

2 days closed due to 6 or 7 inches of snow and some ice??? Wow, Southerners are really amateurs when it comes to snow, huh?

One of my besties just moved to Atlanta and she is banging her head against the wall because nothing has even been plowed.

Going to get pounded again with now 14 inches. Frig is stocked, no ice pellets (we are used to walking or skating around) we just leave about an inch of snow to walk on.

GT will be closed again tomorrow.

According to ATL TV stations, the problem is that there are only 20 snow plows available in ATL! I-285 alone is 64 miles long. Just not enough equipment. This type of event is very unusual. Most winters I don't even need to wear a coat. Apparently today they brought in 40 more snow plows from somewhere else. The state only has a $10M budget for snow removal. This is costing them $2M a day. This event plus the Christmas snow event is gonna blow that budget.

It's easy to walk on snow, but ice is a different story. Our daughter needed meds, and she and her husband managed to walk to a pharmacy to pick them up. But she said it was so slippery that they were relieved when they got home with no falls.

Good news is that their fridge is stocked as well.

Stay warm up in NY, gull!

It's impossible to have fleets of snow and ice removal when it's a once or twice a decade occurrence. Besides we Southereners prefer our ice in the beverages of our choice in the heat of the summer. ;-)

 (just messing with "y'all"- stay safe)

That's what my BIL told me, about not having enough snow plows. Don't y'all get snow up in the mountains, though?

This is turning out to be a hellava winter. My snowman wants a snuggie.

The mountains do tend to get more snow, but I'm not sure how they are equipped. Our issue is ice. Our roads tend to get a glaze and then refreeze overnight. Oddly enough, the majority of motorist they interview that have "crashed" are new transplants from the north! lol

Scooterbug, Colbert was right on. We just surmise that Northerners are aggressive because it's so dam@ cold in the North! lol

By next week it'll be 71 and sunny and our snow plow, play sand, and ice cream salt can be stored until the next decade. :-D
